Mayberry FRG NC Rally May 26-30, 2016

It's official, we are sold out!!!!


The first North Carolina FROG rally is set for May 26-30, 2016 at Mayberry Campground in Mount Airy, NC. Due to demand for a better name, this has been renamed Mayberry FRG.

Sites are $30/night and blocked under FROG. You will have to call to book. It will be a $30 deposit. Since this is Memorial Day weekend, the blocked sites will only be held until New Years Eve. After that the sites will be released to the public. They do typically fill up to capacity this weekend so book early as I only have 50 sites blocked. I have a variety of site sizes from shorter to longer so if you have a shorter rig, please take a shorter site so the bigger rigs have somewhere to fit. If you look at the map we have sites 2 and 3, 5 through 12, 16, 18 through 42, 56 through 66, and 84. I will be in site 27. Once you are registered for the rally pm me here with your site number, names of people attending (kids too) and your forum names. Let me know the dates you will be arriving and leaving. The campground will honor the rally discount for extra days. It has been pointed out that they accept passport America on weekdays so you may be able to get that rate for extra days. (It never hurts to ask).

We have a large pavilion to use, there is also a community fire pit right near the pavilion and a playground close by for the kids. There is lots to do in Mount Airy, where Andy Griffith grew up and based many things in the Andy Griffith show after. There is also Pilot Mountain nearby and Shelton Winery.

I would like to do a potluck style wine (or beer) and cheese/hors d'oeuvres on Friday. A potluck breakfast Saturday morning, a FROG provided meal on Saturday, and a potluck dinner on Sunday. Thursday and Monday will be meals on your own or with friends. Closer to the trip, I will start a separate list of things everybody is bringing to the wine and cheese, and the potluck breakfast and dinner so we don't have a ton of the same things coming. I would also like to find a way to incorporate Memorial Day/remembering those who have fallen into this rally. I will take suggestions on this. Any questions feel free to ask.

More information as I settle details. I will update this post with new info and post a post to check it each time I update.

Update 9/11/15 ---
Cancellation Policy: Our cancellation policy states that if we receive two weeks advance notice, we will grant a full refund less $5.00 for the card transaction fee. Refunds will also be granted past the two week deadline in the event of an emergency situation.


Update 10/11/2015 I have created a NC Rally Potluck sign up thread here. When you decide what you want to bring please post it there. I will try to add the items to the lead post to make it easy to see. Please check that thread close to the rally to remember what you signed up for or see what we still might need. Thank you.

For those interested in renting Golf Carts- I have just spoken with the Golf Cart Outlet in Mt Airy. They are going to give us a group discount that will be affected by the number of people renting golf carts-
these rates are for 5/26-5/30 (you can get more or less time if needed)
1-3 carts- $160
4-9 carts - $130
10-19 carts $105
>20 carts (if he can get enough in)- $95

delivery fee- first 4 cart truckload is free, after that there will be a delivery fee of $50-75 split between all the carts.

The carts are the standard 4 seaters with lights. They have 1 limo 6 seater cart that is available for a little more $ (I think additional $15). I have the group listed as FROG. Call to reserve your cart. I have already reserved our 4 seater cart. As of 4/29/16 there were 4 carts on reserve.

A question on Weather this time of year. I know seasonal forecasts exists etc. Asking someone who lives there. Do we expect 80's and AC use? Is there much rain.

According to weather.com average temps are high 70's/low 80's that time of year. Most of NC spring storms are over by then.

Ace- With a crowd this big, it might be easier to just not keep a list and let people bring whatever.

Trying to follow this tread, it seems to be wandering a bit! Have a question as to any side trips landed either enroute to or from the Maybery event? Was wondering if the Outter Banks old be a good choice this time of the year. Have a couple of open weeks prior and was considering a long side trip on the way. Mt Ayer is a lot closer to there than fron Nashville. Have always wanted to see Kitty Hawk and that area. Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

It depends on what you call a side trip. Kitty hawk is approximately 5 1/2 hrs from mt airy.

Yep, figured about 6 hours out to Kitty Hawk. A lot closer to Mt Ary than from Nashville. Thinking about running over the week before and coming back towards he Rally. Looking at places to stay there now, open to suggestions. Nothing like a 2-3 week road trip to get the camping bug quieted down a bit. Not sure what else there is to do on that side of the world. Getting caught up on the Andy Griffen reruns, had to get the over the air system up and running sat does not carry ME TV.

Two well liked campgrounds in rodanthe are camp hatteras (accepts coast to coast if you are a member) and the Rodsnthe KOA. Here is some I found on the outer banks. There are numerous state parks with little to no hook ups.

For those that don't know, we are making plans to have a Trailer Trash to Treasure yard sale at the campground during the rally. We are opening this yard sale up to the whole campground to sell and buy at. If you have camping stuff, arts/crafts etc to sell, feel free to setup a table to sell

The pavilion has a full kitchen but we can't gave a bunch of people using the oven...if it is necessary we can try to make a use schedule.

They have WiFi. I stayed there during off season and close to the office so it worked. I will tell you there are hills with sites lower and higher than the office. I suspect it is going to be like most campgrounds... dependent on location and how many are trying to use it at the same time.
