I Agree Donald! I have a post on another forum that has lots of folks from IN asking for CG recommendations...more to follow!

X'2 people like to travel and stop at there own speed. As soon as someone needs a break or needs fuel it's over anyway. Also some will be vol. at Goshen and need to be there earlier then others. You might think of CG'S that people are planning using on the way then you will know someone if you stop. Also I'm sure the parking comm. wouldn't want to see 20 units lined up to get in. Just a thought...

X100

Math Exercise (FROG Bob will know this precisely...but just for fun):
  • 750 rigs coming
  • Let's say 50 rigs are volunteers and get there Tue
  • 50 more rigs come in Wed-Fri
  • 150 Rigs come a day early on Saturday
  • Leaving 550 rigs to park on Sunday
  • Parking is from 0800-1700 so that is an arrival rate of 1 rig every minute (assuming it is a constant stream)
Let the fun begin

This thread is off topic. How long to drive straight thru if we are chosen to work on the Honey wagon crew!

Depending, it's a little over 500 miles, so it's about 8 hrs or so.

Checking MapQuest they give it 7 hours and 20 minutes, give or take, I looked at one spot in In. to stop at and from Nashville it would be 5 hours and 15 minutes then about 21/2 hours from there to Goshen. I kind of like that break up so a short trip into Goshen and arrive early in the day, was looking at maybe a 2 night stay but will depend on when Bob would like us to get there, after all he is the BOSS ( at least Cindy let's him think that)

That sounds good, considering your Rig size we need a decent sized site!

Yea, I plan on stopping in Indiana about 21/2 hrs out. I do not drive over 300 miles a day. It called hidden Paradise or something like that I will check and get back to you it's just off of 65 near 75. Okay it's in St. Paul Indiana. Water and electric 32.00 per night , All sewer sites are booked but they have a dump station and pump out service. It's 266 to St. Paul then 185 to Goshen from there. I did vol. but do not know what day Bob wants us there yet. I figure just be there on the 6th of Aug.

Timberline Valley RV Resort
I was looking at this CG as well Rennie. From what I have heard, Bob will want us there sometime Monday - Training starts Tuesday.

I agree Brian. Perhaps this is a compromise?

Camping in Southern, Indiana

This is a Passport America CG, so it is $22/night at the PA rate.

Even though this is a 'Jellystone' park, it has been on my short list because it is about as equidistant between Nashville/Goshen as possible. Google tells me it is 232 Miles (4-ish hours) to Goshen and 210 miles (3-ish hours from Nashville)

So, a decent departure of, say 0800 each day gets us to the day's destination right around 1200 and, since the CG is 87 Miles from Indianapolis, we should miss the Monday morning rush hour traffic.

How do ya'll travel to Goshen via I65? Last year we went I65 -> I69 -> US33 -> Goshen.

If you are NOT a Passport America member, you should check them out - most of ya'll traveling to Nashville & then to Goshen will make your annual dues back in savings on this one trip!

Oh...and for those Passport America Members in the group, maybe some cross-referrals for new members will get you some $$$ - they have a refer a buddy program on until June 30:

HSVBamabob, Are you stating that Bob wants people there 6 days early for training? Of what, how not to steal a golf cart? Training is a one day thing, The only thing I can think of that he would want the parking committee set up early for early arrivals. Other then that not much to learn on the honey crew except don't put it in the wrong whole. That's for B&B I think he's Canadian and I don't know how they do things up there....

Remember Glenn, HSVBamabob is from AL, he'll need the entire 6 days to learn about the Honey wagon and not to lick his fingers.

Glenn,

It's just what I heard - nothing Ex Cathedra from Bob yet. Better to have a plan though

I would imagine that there is a LOT more activities that will require volunteers than just training. Putting together 751 welcome packages, helping plan parking spaces, event setup and a zillion other minutia that are required to make a event of this size happen.

We have worked large scale events for a non-profit we are members of and the sheer magnitude of things that need to be done at the last minute is really amazing
