Finding a campground for a rally around Asheville will be an issue.

I'd imagine trying to get a campground for a rally on a holiday weekend might be a challenge also.

I have an email out to Mayberry Campground to see if they can do memorial day weekend for us. I will update as I get more info.

Yeah, I'm discovering this. Mayberry seems to be the best one I can find for a mountains rally. Everything else is either small, tough access for big rigs, or only allows motorhomes.

You can check a koa CG, it called Asheville East KOA. I have stayed there, they can accommodate up to 70' RIGS, have 50/30 amp power right on the river and very close to the Town. It'a very clean and plenty of things to do. Just in case you have a problem booking a place. Hope that helps.....

My family is in. We would arrange our plans to fit whenever the rally is, but we would prefer spring in the mountains.

Thanks Glenn. Last time we went to Asheville we stayed there on a 4th of July weekend. It was reminiscent of Goshen in that there were a lot of trains and some very tight spots but very nice people working there. We did have to deal with a lot of people cutting through our little site since we were near the pool. Then again, my daughter would be very happy to have the pool as I don't think Mayberry CG has a pool. It could be a back up plan though.

You are correct......no pool at Mayberry CG. But, there a couple of pavilions for any get-togethers.

Ok for those of you looking to know what the plan is..... It will be in Mt Airy,NC memorial day weekend. I still have to finalize everything with them in terms of blocking sites so please do NOT call yet. I have to wait for the girl that handles these things to come back to finish the set up. Does everyone prefer Thursday to Monday or Friday to Tuesday? I will start a new thread when I open this up for booking your sites. Please be watching for that thread. I will post it here and then link this thread to that one with a closing post.

Thursday to Monday, the roads will be busy on Friday of that week end. Thanks will be waiting for your next post on it....but could be as busy on Monday, but that would give some an option to leave Tuesday if they want to miss the traffic that week end. You did good....

Boone and Cherokee both have nice KOA CG. They aren't cheap, but nice and big. Boone has a lot to do. Several pageants. Great food!

Sorry to jump in on this thread so late but I just saw it on the lineup.

We went to the Mt Airy area about 10 years ago and stayed at this park Holly Ridge Family Campground RV Park Boonville NC. It was an easy drive to Mt Airy and to Winston-Salem which has Old Salem, a must see if you haven't been. I was a little disappointed with Mt Airy. You see, I am an avid Andy Griffith Show fan. Yes, he was born and raised at Mt Airy but this was NOT where the show was filmed. It was filmed in CA. The Snappy Lunch is just a greasy spoon café downtown next to a barber shop. The jail was around the corner and looked nothing like what was on the show. Wally's gas station was on the way out of town and had an old police car parked out front for effect. But the town tried it's best to capitalize off of the popularity of the show.

BUT,

There are numerous vineyards around and the nicest was Shelton vineyard. Pilot Mtn is nearby(ever heard of Mt Pilot?). There was an excellent steak place nearby called Cody Creek. And a couple golf courses too.

Just some things I remembered from 10 years ago.
