Boondocking suggestions approaching Glacier and Yellowstone

We are heading up to Glacier today from Crater Lake and would like to boondock the the first night. Our plan is to continue to Yellowstone on Friday and again we would like to boondock the first night. Any suggestions for approaching Glacier and then Yellowstone for boondocking (two separate areas).

Thanks!

Yellowstone

We stayed at Threemile Campground, located 3 miles East of the East entrance. Nice small campground only around 20 campsites located on a river. One morning we had a young grizzly 30 yards behind our camper. By the way do to the bear activity you can only stay there if your in a hard sided camper.

For Yellowstone, any of the several national forest campgrounds along the Shoshone River should be fine. We stayed overnight at Newton Creek campground (about 14 miles east of the east entrance) and loved it. By the way, east to west through Yellowstone seems to involve far less traffic jams around parking areas and roadside parking.

if your coming from Glacier your probably going to hit either the west or north entrance . no real places to boondock in either area . FS camp grounds are either first come first serve or reservation only . there are some places to boondock up red canyon in Idaho about 20 miles south of the west entrance off hwy 20 . still some spots available at the KOA's in west Yellowstone. Good luck
