Powerhouse Generators, Reviews??......

Camping world is carrrying the powerhouse brand generators I was wondering if anyone has tried them out yet?, And how do they compare to the Honda's and yamaha's ?. Are they even close to being as quiet and are they reliable. I am in the market for there 2000 version for $599, Ive been looking at the hondas for a while but this is half the price . So hopefully someone can let me know if they have one. thx

I don't know to much about the Powerhouse brand but I bought this one(P2000 POWERSMART SERIES™ INVERTER) and am very satisfied and at a fraction of the cost of a Honda or Yamaha and it is quiet and dependable as well.

Most inexpensive generators will wake the dead. Look for Db ratings before you buy; and consider your fellow campers. Remember DB is not linear; it is logrithmic. So, every 3 DB higher in rating approximately DOUBLES the sound pressure. So 62 DB is four times as loud as 56 DB;

Thats what I am looking for.
I seen they are 62db, and the hondas are in the 40-55 range. So these would be twice as loud? ALso I would like to not have to replace something in a year or so.

I have been both routes. Started out with a "construction" type generator. It was rated at 65db. I used it 1 season and sold it. Too loud even with a long extension cord for my taste. I then bought a Yamaha ef2400. Super quiet at 53db. I have since sold it and bought a Honda EU3000is. Even quieter at 48db. I can tell a difference between 53db and 48 db. Not a huge difference, but noticeable. The differece between 62db and 53db or 62db and 48db is huge. You really need to hear the difference to appreciate it. To me it is well worth the cost difference.

Last weekend being interested in a Powerhouse 3000w I asked a local dealer if he had any I could hear. He had a 2100w on a service truck and started it for me. I was impressed that it had a key starter but it was quite loud. I don't want one.

One of my pet peeves is the campers who put a loud generator on my side of his trailer and run it 4 hours a day to re-charge his batteries.

I don't know the Powerhouse well, but I do know that they have some big noisy generators and also some inverter types that (by spec) are as quiet as any.

I have two 2kW inverter type Champions that are about $500 each. I also have a parallel kit ($80) so I can hook them together and run the AC.

These have the same noise spec as the Honda and Yamaha. At 23 ft., they are 52 dba at 1/4 load and 59 dba at full load. I find that I can stand nex to them and hold a conversation in a normal tone of voice. When I go into the RV and close the door, I barely notice the sound at all.

I haven't had them long enough to know how they will hold up, but they have a large dealer network so if needed, parts and repairs are available.

I had a Onan 6000 watt diesel generator in a $180K Monaco class A coach with double pained windows a few years back. Now I have a remote start, $359 Champion 3500 watt on the front of my 30WRS Work and Play toy hauler trailer. When you're parked at Walmart's, rest stops, or truck stops you'll always get these semi's idling their engines next to you, it doesn't make any difference, you're still going to hear the semi's idling their engines and your generator inside with the windows closed, the A/C on, it's the same. Turn up your stereo or your TV and don't worry about offending your neighbors, cause they don't.

Ok, this past weekend I was boondocking in humid 90+ temp and the camper was even hotter. Turns out Camping World has a sale on the non-portable eu3000is model today (aug 6) and it's on the way to my house as we speak. Quiet power with electric start. I'll deal with the 135 lbs.

I bought a 2 wheel cart at Home Depot for moving mine around. It works good. With my toy hauler I can easily wheel it in and out of the camper. I think you will really like the EU 3000is. I am very pleased with mine. Very quiet and fuel efficient.

Seems to me that a quiet generator is key. I doubt that Honda holds the patent on quiet running generators. My camper runs off a 30 amp circut. Why can't ALL companies that manufacture generators make the proper adjustments to have a quiet running generator. Quiet meaning has quiet as the Honda's.

Noise polution effects all of us. Be it generator use for camping or construction.

If all generators ran as quiet as Honda's maybe, just maybe, the price might come down too.

there are many quiet inverter generators out there, especially in the last 3 years.
nearly all are Chinese-made but have similar db ratings to the Hondas and Yamahas, but quite a bit cheaper.
Kipor was the first and has been around for at least 6 years.
even Dometic has some made under their name.

Highly recommend Duromax-- VERY reliable, yet not quiet. Go with a 50' cord, and a makeshift enclosure that has a completely open end for circulation and exhaust and direct that end away from you. It will help with noise levels. I keep mine set up year round powering our a-frame fold down camper on a primitive site, boondocking-- will be using concrete cinderblocks as a noise buffer in the spring. Rumor has it that they do pretty well with noise. I will stack them and fill them with dirt, just high enough to surround it on 3 sides, then make a lid....Luckily, my setup right now is only slightly annoying while sitting outside on our site and can barely be heard at all at other sites. We have alot of small, medium and large trees all around us providing a multi-level canopy that also buffers the sound. Boondocking with all the amenities of a campground nearby-- a clean bathhouse being the most important to me-- right across the roadway. We have put thousands of hours on this Duromax 4400 w/electric start and will be adding some solar charging kits in the spring as well.

I was in the market for a 3000 Watt unit for my 2011 Salem.
I looked at Honda, Kipor and Powerhouse. The Honda is the best but not the best price. I found the Kipor to be comparable in noise to the Honda for half the cost. I also looked at the powerhouse but found them to be a little noisier.

The Powerhouse and Kipor are both quiet enough for camping. The added bonus of the powerhouse is the remote start feature, however it seemed unreliable at long distances. The remote seemed to only work up to about 40' away. I ended up purchasing the Kipor IG3000 from Generac Powerhouse, and Kipor Generators and have been very happy with it. I did have to add a capacitor to my A/C unit for the generator to be able to start it.

I have a P3100i, love it, nice and quiet, great on fuel and has a remote start that is really nice, you don't have to walk outside to start it. I use it on my house and trailer. Highly recommend it, have had it for about 1 year, paid around $1250 CDN for it.

As a newb full-timer (with my wife) I found a few of the posts on this thread a little disconcerting. When you buy these cheap, loud, remote start units and place them 40 or 50' away from your MH or TT where are you putting them? Next to my MH?

The Powerhouse unit i have is not at all noisy, it is an invertor generator and has remote start, an auto idle function and a well insulated cabinet. The Champion units on the other hand are real noise boxes. Very satisfied with my Powerhouse, my trailering buddy has a Yamaha and mine is just as quiet.

Champion does indeed make some big, very noisy, contractor generators. They also make some inverter generators that are ajust as quiet as those from Honda, Yamaha, or Powerhouse.

Update: before delivery I cancelled the eu3000i last year and ordered two eu2000i's with the crossover hookups for the same price only because of weight. The one genny has a 30a plug for use when running together. Comparing the Powerhouse and Honda both running beside each other at a local RV dealer there is no comparison in noise. Eventhough the Powerhouse is quiet, the Honda's are much quieter. With two at 50# each they are manageable unlike the eu3000I and I run only one unless I need A/C.
