2017 30rls chaparral lite AC unit froze.

We just came back from a 4 day trip. Temp was 82 outside, I had the AC set to 74.
First day camping the AC evaporator coil froze up , Low air flow at vents . SO I turned off AC and ran the fan on high for the rest of the day. Night was cool so no need for AC , Next day I turned the AC back on and everything ran fine. Good air flow , no issues. Has this happened to anyone, Why would coil freeze?

We froze up in Florida a few weeks ago. We have Ducted ac and I read too change the fan to high instead of auto and run it like that. The best I could tell was the cause could be a misplaced freeze sensor, bad air flow, dirty filters, or high humidity. Only thing we had was high humidity.

AC unit

Thanks for the info Doc, I removed the cover on the roof to take a look , Sensor looks OK,still connected to blades. Filter is clean, Guess I'll wait till next trip out to see how it goes. Anyway still have until July 2018 with Dometic warranty. Two years with them on unit.
Have a great Holiday!!

We only have the freeze problem when the fan is on low for extended periods. We always use auto fan but if the temp differential is low the fan will run in low and eventually freeze up, especially if humidity is up. During these times we will usually run the ac unit in dump mode instead of through the vents. A little less noise than high fan, and still keeps the coil from freezing.

Agree with NMWildcat. During daytime peak temps run the system in dump mode..

On a trip last year one of our units froze up. Did like you and ran fan only. The next morning turned it back to cooking and for the next couple of days it worked just fine. Like you I checked sensor locations and for any other issues and couldn’t find any. A month later we were on a 2 week trip and were in the Destin area and it started freezing up non stop. Called a RV repair service out, they taped up where the air was maybe bypassing the discharge and back into the return but that didn’t help. They said that it would take longer to get the new warranty unit in than our trip was going to be. Luckily we have two units so we would run the one until it froze up and would change it over to fan only and got some cooling. The unit was replaced under warranty after we got back.
