280 rls slideout

I have a 2012 Chaparral 280RLS. The front half of the LS fender skirt is fixed to the trailer side and the RR half is on the slideout. The problem is, the two halves to not meet or mesh together when closed. In fact, the skirt half on the slide pushes the half on the trailer side in to within 3/4" of the tire. I'm concerned about it somehow, under the right conditions, shredding the sidewall of the tire. I don't see any missing strut. In fact I don't see how the design could allow for any kind of strut.
Is there anyone who has an idea about how to fix this, or is it just a BAD. design?

Thanks
