Air conditioner or lack of!

My rv is a freedom express 320bhds. I was in 95+° weather and I could not get the temperature down below 80° on inside of rv. I only have one 15000btu unit, shouldn't it be able to at least drop it into the 70s before 9pm or am I dreaming. Thinking of adding another unit in bedroom but wiring would be a chore fishing through the ceiling. Anybody have this issue or add another unit?

Based upon the long time standard of an AC unit can be expected to drop inside temperature approximately 20 degrees from the outside temperature, I would say your unit is doing better than most.

Just to cover all bases. Check the ducting to be sure it's sealed up at the ends, and that it's not collapsed or blocked along the way. Check the partition between the supply and return sections in the ceiling to be sure it's sealed between them.

These are a few of the common issues we see from the factory.
Fixing those things will ensure that the A/C is doing the best job that it can.

Was just in Waco a couple of weeks ago, Got up right at 100 degrees. best we could do in the trailer at that time was around 82. Not the best insulated are they.

With a single A/C that's about right. Even with two they'll often run pretty well all day when the temperature reaches upper 90s and beyond but do seem to cool down much faster in the evening...at least our last two do.

We were just in Gulf Shores over the 4th of July and had the same problem. I went to Lowe's and bought the reflectix insulation and cut sheets to fit each window and it lowered the temps in the trailer by 5 degrees. Only problem is you cannot see out of any of the windows but I will take cool over a view any day!

Between it not cooling enough and the power pole breaker turning off. Got to 102° inside when I ran to town for 4hrs. Thankfully I didn't leave me dog locked up inside. Usually take her with us but had her boarded for this trip.

Sorry your dreaming ................If it was 95 degrees and sunny and the inside got to 80 degrees you are doing great with one AC unit.

Is you RV a 50A or 30A unit?

30a, I know I would have to change a few things to add another unit. But willing to do so if that would help.

Easiest and cheapest way is to run two power supplies or the converter would also have to be changed along with wiring, shore power cords.

I thought about a new 50amp plug and cord, and having a rated disconnect on the secondary 110 inside and use that as primary feed to new ac. Bypassing the whole coverter/distribution box.

I couldn't get my trailer down below 80-85 when outside was 95-100.

Then I covered most of the roof with solar panels and now I can get it down to 70 with no problem.

At 94 this past weekend I had it down to 68!

BTW...At my house, I installed Solar on the entire south facing roof. I've not heard my attic fan turn on since! The house stays amazingly cooler now.

In Austrailia I saw a number of campers with double roofs with about a 1-2" airspace between. I think this is what is happening on my camper and at my house. That space between the panels and roof keeps the roof much cooler.

If you are not in a shaded area, air temp does not matter, compared to the Sun beating down on the roof, sides, and slides. I bet if you get laser temperature reader I bet the walls and ceiling are warmer than the outside air temp!

I have been in Florida in June, Air temp 95º with 55% humidity with my old 1997 30 foot 5ver, with a 13.5k Domestic Ducted AC and I kept the inside temp down to 70 and the thermostat would kick off the AC unit for 10 to 15 minutes.... the WHOLE KEY was, I was shaded from morning till night in loop 100 at Disney Fort Wilderness resort!

I picked up a 37' Forest River 5th wheel Bunk house for a family member in Arizona and it was 115º, with the one 15K AC running, it was 75º inside, well it was under the roof of work area, so no sun had been touching it for 5 hours when they had the AC to do the walk thru!!!

100 loop of fort wilderness, I'm going to have to remember that. Have a wishful trip planned for there from Washington. I just don't want to slow cook in my rv.

We have a 32 ft. fiver with two slides in living area. Fiver is 30 amp and not wired for a 2nd AC. I worked around this by installing a second power supply line ran through a 20 amp circuit breaker mounted in the left forward storage area. Drilled a hole in floor of bedroom and ran the 10 gage wire up the inside wall and across the ceiling to skylight opening. Removed the skylight and installed a 2nd 15K AC. Covered the exposed wire in bedroom with cable channel purchase at Lowes. Total cost of new AC & inside ceiling controls plus the wiring and connections came to approximately $750.00. The new AC & ceiling control was purchase on Ebay for $549.00 which included shipping & no tax. Unit manufacturer is Dometic, it is a non ducted unit.
