Apex A/C leak

Hi all - Our air conditioner started having some water coming through it during a hard rain this weekend. I did a little research and found that the bolts sandwiching the unit can be the issue so I removed the cover and found them to be pretty loose, not quite able to turn by finger but loose. The one inch gasket is not compressed at all and I have read it should be but the gasket seems pretty robust and to compress it by 1/2 as I had read would be tightening down pretty hard. Any recommendations?

Those hold down bolts should be torqued to 45 in/lbs or about 4 ft/lbs. So they're not supposed to compress the gasket very much.

I would probably tighten them a little and see if that fixes the problem.

Thanks for the response, I torqued them to 45 in/lbs which is much tighter than they were. Hopefully no more issues.
