Bike Racks

Need to haul 4 bikes with us when we go camping. Dealer told us that our TT (Apex Ultra-Lite 259BHSS) couldn't handle more than 100# on the back bumper or it would void the warranty. Past 2 trips I've been sticking the bikes inside, but already made one scratch that's driving me crazy...don't want to have the bikes doing any more damage.

I've seen one 4-bike rack on-line that sits above the propane tanks, but it didn't look like it was worth the $500 price tag...

Suggestions?

I had 4 bikes on the bumper of our 5th wheel & it had extra support weld on & we stopped for coffee walking back looking at bikes they were on a funny angle. Started checking the 4 inch tube bumper was just about ready to fall off. The only thing holding was the extra supports I had put on.

Did you happen to take any pictures? I am always interested in photo documentation on this topic. There are tons of "anecdotal" stories of why bumper mounts are a horrible idea, but a photo is worth a thousand words.

I purchased a front receiver hitch for my truck on EBay. Works great for hauling bikes.

hard to see what you used for tow vehicle, in your profile pic, but the best system for 4 bikes is a roof top rack system, like from Yakima or Thule.

and they can easily be converted to carrying cargo, kayaks, skis, snowboards and other stuff.

bike tires don't look like they are very far off the ground. Aren't you afraid of smashing them. I just put a front hitch on my 3500 Chevy for my kayak support, and I have already filled the receiver full of sod once

The receiver is pretty low, but the bike rack has an upward angle and it never became an issue.

I welded together my own kayak support post. Made it much heavier than what I could by for 1/10 the price. Next I plan on mounting a 2 bike rack to the post, high enough to be clear of ground, but not blocking my vision.

Was actually referring to never heard of the front mount bike racks. But wasn't aware that bumpers fell off so frequently, either....

Front receivers are fairly inexpensive. I just got mine for about $115 and free shipping. Installed myself in about half hour

Asked my dealer about putting a hitch on the back of my 320bhds and got a shrug of the shoulders and why not, we sell them over here. Will be contacting coachmen before my next trip.

kids think tt stands for tan turd.

NO pictures . Just glad I noticed before they fell off . We were heading home after a long weekend ; bumper to bumper traffic on a 4 lane highway. The factory welds on the 4 in square tubing bumper let go. It was not welded properly. It only had penetrated both the bumper & the frame in about1 inch on each side of the frame.
