Broken Spring hanger

After our last trip of the season and upon pulling into the driveway I heard a metallic pop and upon stopping noticed that the spring hanger for the rear axle, drivers side had broken only leaving the base plate. I called Lippert(LCI) and they sent me the bracket and hardware. I have since had a welder, weld the new bracket in place. I have a 2015 according to title(2014 mfg. date) 360IBL Coachmen Chaparral. I would suggest getting a flashlight and checking for any cracks in the hangers.

Thanks for the heads up.

A good reminder for everyone to periodically look at things you would think would last forever.

Thanks for the post. I was just installing never fail bushings on my 360IBL a few weeks ago and wondered if the hangers ever break off. Lord knows I beat them hard enough.

Broken Spring hanger

I got this kit. Lippert 281285 Never Fail Shackle and Bolt Kit for Double Axle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BFUA9TQ..._lnPkCbBEVNWNV I should have gotten just the bushings only kit since I am planning on installing the correct track alignment/lift kit.

The bushing-only kit is $55

They make the Chassis, slide mechanisms and many more items. See their website. They are the major and in some cases only supplier for these types of components to the RV industry.

I am adding braces across the trailer to strengthen the spring hangers. This is an all too common problem with Lippert frames. Seems to be a bigger issue on spread axles.

I installed the greasable Morryde shackle and bolt kit.

Call Garth Collins at Lippert and have him pay for the labor to fix your suspension. After my spring hanger fell off after 14 months and 4k miles, I threatened to sue them for putting a garbage frame on the road. Turned out the welds didn't bond well and the trailer was a rolling disaster. To answer Lee's question, Lippert is the company that should be shut down by the NTSB for "manufacturing" products for profit at the expense of putting people in harm's way. Their quality control is terrible and they juke and jive around the facts when they're actually called out on it.

To repair mine, the welder had to reinforce the frame by welding 1/4" plate steel that was 2"x70". The spring hangers were then welded to the plate steel. It stiffened things up substantially. I will likely add more steel crossbracing at some point. The welder needs to look at it once I have 500+ miles on the repair.

That one broken weld has been the most stressful and frustrating part of owning my trailer. Had I known about that garbage quality, I would have never bought a travel trailer.

I, too, called Lippert to explain my situation and was told that it was not under warranty and transferred me to parts. Ironically, they sent me the parts free. I was not as forceful as I should have been. I did file with the NHTSB, a complaint, nothing back to date. I feel the same frustration. I told my wife after this broke that I wanted to sell this piece of sh___ and call camping quits. But we enjoy camping so I will pick up the pieces and try to make the best and contend with this piece of junk.

Its an absolute uncalled for frustration. Remember the last time a Ford, Chevy or Dodge spring hanger broke off after 250K miles?......me either!

Can good welding be done? Yes!

Is good welding done by Lippert? A confirmed F#$% NO!!!

They don't care! Put the screws to them. You paid good money for a good trailer!. Expect and demand that!
