Chassis stereo not working on battery

We recently took our first trip in our new (well, new to us) RV. It's a 2003 Coachmen Mirada. Everything worked great except that the chassis stereo (the one in the dash) only worked when the RV was plugged into a 30 AMP service. It would not work going down the road while the RV was running. Anybody have any idea why?

I think this is normal. In our Apex, the TV/DVD only works if plugged in...not off of the battery.

That makes perfect sense to me. But this is the radio in the dash. Like a car radio, shouldn't it work going down the road?

My 2013 Mirada had the radio wired to the house battery. That's okay but then I had to turn it off manually whenever I stopped. I rewired it into a switch so I had access to both house and chassis power. Not a big deal but that's the way I am.
