Do these windows open?

Do windows like this open or are they only for emergency exits?

Yes. Pull the red handle straight into the room then push it straight out. The window will push open from the bottom. There is a notch on the red handle to hold it open.

Yes. By all means.. but just be aware that they don't have a screen. Even just a crack will get you a decent cross breeze thru your rig.

FWIW, I modified mine by drilling a few holes so I can open it variable amounts. Just drop a small pin or nail through the hole and it stays. Easy as cake.

I see the screen in your window just like mine. They are for emergency exit as well as ventilation. IMHO everybody should know how to open those windows. If you go out side you will see how you can simply lift the window all the way up in order to crawl out of it if needed. We like to leave open when it rains. The way it opens seems not allow the rain in.

Really? A separate screen in place when the window is open?

I haven't seen that before. Kind of seems to defeat the purpose of an emergency exit if you need to climb through a screen to get out.

Be careful on a motorhome. Some back windows are emergency only but should be opened periodically to make sure they work OK. Just make sure someone is outside because some have been said to drop the window onto the ground.

The escape windows we have on our Wildcat open & all have screens. Screens pop out easily for exit. The windows however stick to the seals almost every time we put the Wildcat in storage for any length of time. I try to remember to open them during our set up so that if needed they will be easier to get open.

One other issue we've noted with them is the slotted red handle prop isn't very reliable & the window can slam shut in a good wind or the handle pop all the way outside & leave the window dangling in the breeze. I like the idea of drilling some holes...but it would take a pin on both sides to keep it from popping out or falling in. Hmmm....

We also have an emergency escape ladder stowed in the upstairs bedside night stand so if need be we can get out without jumping.

Lefty59, Just drill a additional hole through the part of the window frame that the silver flat bar slides through. Then just drop the "pin" through that hole when the holes on the silver flat bar line up. Only one pin needed. Really much easier than it sounds as I type.

Thanks everyone! I was afraid the window would just fall off if I opened it. All good now!

Thanks, Mtelkman! Hadn't thought of doing that. It should do the trick!

Now, once I get that done I only hope I can avoid running into the protruding handle in the dark when the window is only part way open.
