I'm in Southern California between LA and San Diego. I also like the mountains but only have tent camp there. Not sure why but I also like the desert and of course I love beach camping.

How do you like the Chaparral? We are looking at the 30 ft Chaparral light. What is your tow vehicle?
We are moving from a 18 ft RPod to something larger!

Thanks

IMO you should be looking at least a 3/4 ton TV, they
say you can tow the Chaparral light with the newer
1/2 tons but to me that's pushing it. Reason I say this
is that by the time you load your food, cloths, dishes,
bedding, water, and other things your going to be right
up there on pin weight......

You will not believe the room for storage, as one of my
friends said we almost could have stuck his trailer in
our storage area.......

I tow the lite with a 3/4 ton SD Ford with the 6.4.
There was a sticker on it that said 1/2 ton towable but it would need to be a heavy half with all the towing extras you can buy IMO.

If you plan on buying a bigger trailer at some point then buy a 1 ton of your flavor.

I agree with Ford Idaho, if you by a 1 ton then your
already setup and have saved hundreds of dollars
if you want to upgrade to a bigger 5er ......

You have to remember trailers are like boats,
you start small and then after a few years
you buy bigger & bigger & bigger and the
next thing you know your pulling a 43ft
land yacht down the road

I am sort one sided on 1 ton toward dually's
do to the fact they are more stable in the wind
and to me ride better... I'm sure some people will
disagree LOL, those fenders stick out a ways
and in some parking lots hard to find a spot LOL
