I'm so jealous, you have been out camping already this season and at a Bristol race to boot!!
Were the stands as empty as they looked on TV? I cannot believe ticket sales have fallen off that much. I was at my first Bristol Night Race last year and it was awesome!! We didn't camp (looked like everyone that was had a great time) and I was very surprised at how well the local authorities moved the traffic out and away from the track. I have been stuck in traffic for hours and hours numerous times at MIS in Michigan and at Daytona.

The stands were pretty empty. The weather was sketchy earlier in the day Sunday but everyone has their opinion about why the attendance was ultimately the worst it has been in the five years I have been going.
The first couple times we went, we stayed in motels also, but the first time that we camped at the track I was hooked. For me, it is the only way to go.

I know what you mean about camping being the only way to go. We used to camp years ago in the infield up at MIS, now that was a party. Anything and everything used to go on there. They have cleaned it up quite a bit from what I hear. If we get back down to Bristol may have to drag the camper along. The campers are a lot closer to the track than where we ended up parking! Took the shuttle from our car to the track but after the race there was no way I was waiting in the shuttle line. Walked all the way down the dragstrip, about another quarter mile up-hill and then a half mile or more back to our car.
I definitely prefer Martinsville and Bristol to anywhere else for seeing a race, you can actually see the whole race!

Also took my Chaparral 5er to Bristol last week on it's maiden voyage. Stayed at Bill Gaine's Campground accross the street from the back entrance to the drag strip. Always a good time! We'll be there again in August.

Dezeldad,
If that picture is from Bristol you sure found a secluded spot that no one else must know about, LOL .
I see you are from Ohio, be sure to check out the OMI rally page in the Rally forum section, it is being held in mid-May. I kind of expected it to be our first outing of the year but with the weather we have been having here in Ohio the past two weeks we are ready to get out camping now!

We leave in the morning on our maiden voyage with our new camper. Did a shakedown in the driveway last weekend, ready for the open road.

Yep, that's Bristol, sad to say attendance is way down in the campground too! When I first started going to this campground 8 years ago, it was full all around me, now there's just a few of us in this back corner of the CG. Expect there will be a few more in August.
No sure about the rally. My DD is still playing high school ball & it her last year and I don't want to miss it.

I can see why camping @ Bristol would be preferred to motelling it. We were @ Bristol last April & the motel situation was a bit sketchy. Two motels side by side in town. The 1st 1 we checked, the lobby was kind of "off". The next motel was OK, but nothing special.
I've thought about taking the TT to Bristol in the future as the I-81 route (from Watertown NY south) doesn't have a lot of grades for a mountain newbie.
