I still can't quite visualize it, but that's okay. Have you really rotated the entire plenum (sheet metal box)? How could you do it without taking off all the ducts? Are you trying to remove the entire plenum?

This seems like a tricky situation. In the instances I'm familiar with, you can leave the plenum in place and simply slide the firebox/fans/circuit board assembly out of it.
