Furnace won’t shut off

So I finally forced the thermostat lever, and now it comes on. However, when I turn the thermostat to the off position, the furnace stays on. I have to turn the propane off for the furnace to stop. What am I doing wrong? Is it because I’m not plugged into a 30 amp outlet? I just have it on 110 while I clean and prepare for a trip.
Thanks

Your furnace works on 12 volts DC…..not 110 volts AC.

I suspect you may have broken a component within the thermostat, because you said you “forced the thermostat lever”.

That may be why it doesn’t turn off. Is this the first time you’ve had troubles?

Sure sounds like a broken thermostat to me also.

When turning it off do you merely move the lever to the lowest position or actually turn the switch to the off position.

If only moving the lever there's a mechanical issue in the thermostat, most likely something bent.

If it won't shut off when the switch is turned off the switch is bad.

Either way the best solution would be to replace the thermostat.

Find a model number and check Amazon.

Thank you. Tomorrow morning I’m going to buy a new thermostat. Hopefully that will fix the issue. If not, I’ll head over to the RV repair shop and ask for help.

If is a broken thermostat then now would be a good time to upgrade to a digital unit.

Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions. I talked to the service department at a local shop. He said my model runs for 3 minutes after the thermostat shuts off to cool down. So, I gave that a try, and it worked like he said. However, when I get back from my trip, I am going to upgrade to a digital Tstat.

Thanks again.

I hope your issue is fixed, however, you stated in your 1st post that you had to turn off the propane to get the furnace to stop.

During the furnace cool down period, the burner isn't burning. If your burner was actually still burning when you turned the thermostat off/down and only went out by turning off the propane, you still have issues.

I can smell the weird smell from being used for the first time. Just like the house! When I turn the thermostat off, I can hear a click. I assume that's the propane shutting off. I'll have to go out to the trailer and try the heater again. It's a simple fix to replace the thermostat, and I have time since we don't leave until Saturday. Thank you.

After gas is shut off, the heating chamber must cool down before fan can stop.
