Humidity
Does anyone have any recommendations for controlling humidity inside travel trailers? Down here in FL the humidity inside the trailer ranges from 70% on up. I am hanging a Damp Rid in the shower, but should I do more? During the summer humidity levels are often well into the 80% to 90% range.

In the shower?
Why there?
How large is the Damp Rid package?
Best way is with ventilation the air needs to move around.
Perhaps an electric dehumidifier would be the way to go.

It is a really small trailer, Viking 17BH, and it seemed like the best place to hang it was the shower curtain rod. The Damp Rid we are using are the hanging packs. In terms of size - it is approximately 15 inches high by 7 inches wide and it has a hanger on the top. I will investigate electric dehumidifiers. Is there a target humidity that we should aim for? I'm sure this is a common concern in FL, or any coastal / swamp areas.

X2 on the ventilation. Open a window or roof vent to circulate the air.

The only problem with opening a vent is that in the summer it rains here daily, sometimes twice a day. Although, I do have a cover that I plan to use. Would it be acceptable to keep a fan in it and just circulate the air within the unit, or does there need to be a vent open, too?

Vic,
You didn't mention if you vent has a fan or not. Hopefully it does. If not you might want to consider installing one in the existing opening. A fan roof vent combined with an open window, even a little bit, will really help. And getting your cover installed shouldn't take more than 15-20 minutes.

Why don't you run your AC? It is a big dehumidifier and will dry the air out!

The air needs to go some place besides around the inside of the RV.
Air in air out = circulation.

We use the big tub of damp rid in our 5ver. It sits in a pole barn when we aren't camping and doesn't get a lot of sun. The damp rid tub does a good job. We just leave it on the table.

I do have one in my tt, along with 3 damp rid bags, one bag in the kitchen/living room, one in the kids bunks room, and the last one in the outside kitchen, 2 years old camper and smell and look brand new! $7.99 damp rid box of three bags last a month in my Surveyor. When camping, we just use one bag and the air dryer 1000. Works great!
