Mice entering camper

I have a 312 bhds and the power cord comes out of the back left side of the camper. We leave it at a seasonal site for the summer. There have been a couple mice that have come in by climbing the power cable. I have set up a trap by the box were the power cable comes in and caught one on a sticky trap (he then got me back by chewing through some small wires). How can I stop them from climbing up the cable? The hole they are getting into is small but so are they. Here are some pictures of what it looks like.

Seriously stuff that hole with steel wool.
My mil swears that stuff stops mice.

I'd belive it to since I've yet to see a mouse or it's tale tell signs!

You could retrofit a plug in connection. Its kind of expensive but no more mouse hole.

The steel wool should help. If you are not constantly plugging in unplugging you might try screwing the cover shut. It should take the mouse family at least a few years to find and learn how to use a screwdriver! Or they'll have to call a handymouse and we all know how long it'll take her to get there. (I'm told all handymice are women.)

cut a circle of 1/4" mesh hardware cloth the same diameter as the indent in that entry.cut a slit in it and then cut out a circle the same diameter as the 30 amp wire.slide it over the wire and push it into place and close the cap..... e z pee z !

or,you could even cut the same configuration out of a plastic lid if its big enough to cover the inside of the entry

When we had our house built in 2003, we had a terrible time with field mice getting into the garage.

I tried those glue traps (a horrible invention...especially when the mice don't die and are out there screaming) and the old-fashioned spring-loaded kind...but a little gruesome, too...

But, man, these electric mice zappers are awesome and work! The couple of mice I had to get rid of were drawn into them within hours and the 4-AA batteries killed them instantly. (Peanut butter seems to be irresistible to them.)

You may want to leave out outside the camper for a while...I'm betting you'll get quite a few!

Copper wool is best for preventing mouse infiltration and does not rust......

Along with the wool you can goop up the cable with some Vaseline, just remember it's there don't ask me how I know. lol I read on here somewhere it was good for ants, maybe mice too.

You can capture one and torture it nearly to death.. Then release so he can tell they others of your sadistic ways... But I can tell you that doesn't always work..lol..

Or you can use some hardware cloth with a slit for the cord... I have used this method in the past and am using it as we speak as I keep my MH plugged in during storage in my yard and nothing has gotten in yet...

Like fonzie said, copper wool works and does not rust. Don't use STEEL wool unless you want rust marks running down the side of your rig. You can also use brass wool that won't rust either. You can find it at some hardware stores, but the best place is marine supply shops. Boaters would not want steel wool any where around their boats and RVer's shouldn't either.

I agree with the copper/brass wool to stuff. I'd also add some oasis (the green foam that florists use) soaked with peppermint essential oil. They hate the smell and avoid it.

A round plastic insert like suggested in a previous post would be the simplest and easiest if made out of a coffee can lid, etc. inserted inside the compartment. Even the top portion of a plastic soda or water bottle would work.

Get a bottle of essential oil of peppermint. Put a few drops on a cotton ball or two and place them in an old juice glass or ash tray and put one in front and one in back. I have had mice in my garage for years, but none in my RV that is parked next to the garage. You need essential oil, not peppermint used for cooking, Also do not get it on floor or cabinets as it will damage them.
