New chapparral drains water out the back while filling the tank

So in my new 2019 chapparral 381 rd I was filling the frsh water tank and noticed it draining right out of the rear of the camper. Is there a close valve that I dont know of to fill the tank?

That happens when the tank is full. Water xomes out of the overflow.

As noted above, there is an overflow...should be next to the tank drain pipe.

I had an interesting experience the first time I filled the tank just before backing into my campsite...the tank continued to drain for a longer-than-usual time. My wife said will it ever stop? I thought it was odd. Later I checked the tank and it was only 2/3 full. It had filled full when were parked several times.

I think it was draining since my rig is a couple inches high on the hitch. Never had that problem in any of my other rigs. This will be a problem since my fresh water tank is only 45gal in the first place.

We will see how it works after I install the correct track lift kit here in a few weeks. My thinking is that the over flow drain pipe must be on the rear side of the tank. Another possible cause is the siphoning action. I will investigate this one after I lift the trailer. That needed to be corrected anyway due to the attitude of the trailer while hitched.

Your overflow for the freshwater tank should be right at the inlet port where you fill it. When the tank gets full the water should start coming out at that port to let you know its full. If its coming out anywhere else, you might have a problem. The only other place it "SHOULD" come out would be the tanks low point drain

That's not the case on a lot of RV's. (Though I agree that it should be.) Our vent/overflow is under the RV near the axles, which is a good distance from the fill.

My 2020 381RD came with the freshwater low point drain cap removed. I noticed the cap in the bay near the plumbing controls.

That's the fresh water overflow and on some rigs, once it starts running out the overflow it will continue to syphon out your water until the level falls below wherever the overflow tube is plumbed in.
