Question on basement doors

We have a 370FL and the basement doors open back to front instead of lifting up and fastening open. These are big doors and have no way to hold open or fasten open.I now have dents,from the propane door handles,in the skin on the doors.What has anyone come up with to hold them open and not just swinging around? I don't know if I like the gas shocks,because they will pull out of the door.
