silicon is OK on the metal, fiberglass, etc, body but never on the roof or on anything touching the roof or roof seams

IMHO I would not use Silicon, it lifts and separates in a short period of time and must be completely removed and thoroughly cleaned prior to resealing. The only place I use Silicon is to fill the 4 screw holes on the refrigerator cap and vent caps so I can easily pull out to remove caps if needed. Otherwise I use Geocel Pro Flex RV on the exterior walls and Dicor self leveling lap sealant on the roof.
