I'm another happy Coachmen Apex owner. We did have a couple of problems initially, but they were promptly taken care of by both Coachmen and our local dealer.

Unless I am misunderstanding, your original post gives me the impression that a Coachman Dealer is telling your parents that Coachmen is garbage? Are they a dealer that sells other products as well as Coachman and are steering them to purchase one of those "other" manufacturers? Are those "other" manufacturers more expensive?

We have a Coachman Clipper 21RD as our first TT....in terms of features/cost it was a tremendous value. I've upgraded some items (most notably the tongue jack) and made some modifications, and will continue to do so.
Is it top of the line, no...does it have some issues - sure, like anything this size and complex, there are going to be problems...but so far every issue we've ran across is minor, the dealer has been stellar, (it's in with them right now getting some little things done and a good bath), and the overall experience has been fantastic. When we go to upgrade in a few years (I want to get at least five out of this one before we "upgrade") I will still consider Coachmen when I start my search....
This almost feels like trolling to me....

I'm not sure if the original post was to complain about the sales force/mechanic, or to make a point about Coachman.
The mechanic was out of line in any event to make any generalization about any product. I wonder how long he has been in the business, and if he was just shooting off his mouth because of what someone else may have said.
Without any more information about follow up questions to him about what his specific complaints were, it's not very credible, kind of a wasted thread.

I had a salesman tell me about 10 years ago Dutchman was going out of business and he stirred us to a Keystone. I won't go into details because as I see it all brands have horror stories.
When looking at things. Pull on every handle, pull on doors, put slides, in, out, in, out, in, turn on everything at once, if you can.
ASK EVERY STUPID QUESTION you can think of. Use your phone to either record or act like you are recording your walk through.
Look up known issues and ask questions. Find out about warranty work and service.
Question your insurance company as well.
Good Luck. and just know, things will go wrong, more at the beginning.

The OP was getting pressure from his parents about a quick purchase and relayed some email conversation they sent him.

No it wasn’t. It was a dealer in MD.
Something wrong with Keystone RV though?

Thanks! Yeah, I noticed that too. I think It’s the keeping up with demand churning them out Fast Also making lighter models (and something has to give to do that) noticed that the car/truck dealerships aren’t helping dispel the myth that you Should pull a 30+ ft trailer as it was the dickens around here to find a single wheel 250 or 350. 150s galore though.
Plus, then there’s the cut down where you can thing you see (toys are one I’ve really seen a decline in quality. Three kids all under 6 and watched fisher price take a nose dive almost every year. Making us glad we kept the earlier stuff from our six year old.

For the help of the forum, please give details of the three times you had to take back to dealership. Very helpful to know specifics!

We have a 2012 Coachmen Encounter. The driver and passenger seats, sofa, and dinette upholstery started to peel. After complaining repeatedly, they replaced all of it with "better material". Now less then 3 years later it is doing it again. They used the same old crap. They knew of the problem because there was a sofa in the dumpster like ours with the same peeling issue. I would look for a different manufacturer other then a Forest River product.

We have a 2016 Freedom Express 292BHDS that has been relatively trouble free since the day we picked it up. Went back to the dealer once, within the 1 year warranty period, for a torn slide seal. Dealer repaired in timely fashion and have been enjoying it ever since.
All brands have their own issues!

I hate to tell you but other RV manufacturers are using the same suppliers/vendors
FR doesn't make the furniture.

Doesn't matter who makes the furniture, but when we were told it was replaced by "better material " it should actually be better. Forest River, I believe, knew of the issue with the furniture yet okayed the replacement with the same crapola.

We have a 2013 Coachman Freedom Express 305RKDS. We have had almost no problems. Even the China Bombs lasted until vacation last year. Replaced them with Goodyears and continued on our merry way. Of course we have the normal maintenance and things that happen to a house that is trying to shake itself apart. That being said we really enjoy our unit and traveling to different parts of the country.

I have a 2018 Coachmen Chaparral 360IBL 5er. Love it, no complaints. The Tech who did my walk through said he thought Coachmen gave the best bang for the buck.
I guess we have to choose which liar to believe.

Happy owner
2017 coachman freedom express 248rbs. Put 2k on it last year. Very happy with our purchase. The only issue we had was a toilet valve that wasn’t sealing properly. Didn’t even take it to the dealer. They just sent me the part and I fixed it. Must have gotten a Wednesday trailer.
