Using the "electric" furnace

We just finished our first night in our new 2017 Coachmen Chaparral 392MBL and LOVE it so far!!!!

One question though about our Comfort brand thermostat, does anyone know why the A/C unit comes on when you turn the furnace to electric heat? While there is some heat coming from the floor there is also cool air coming from the roof vents which makes the temp drop inside.

I can't figure out how to have the electric heat on without the A/C unit automatically coming on as well.....

Set the fan to Auto

Do you have an ac unit that has heat strip? Some do and the heat strip may not be working.

I'm not sure if we have a heat strip or not and nothing in the manuals says anything about it....they are actually quite useless!!!

As for setting the fan to auto, for the left of me, I can't figure out how to do that.....nothing I do give me tat option

The only options I have for electric heat is on or off. If I am using the actual a/c setting or just the fan, I can select low/high fan speed.

Disregard the option for heat for the moment. Do you have an option for FAN? If so, move it from LO or HI to AU (auto) if you don't want the A/C fan to run while the furnace is running.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will try moving the fan option to AU and report back....we are currently on propane heat just to warm things up for now. It's currently 1 degree C outside.....near that inside!!!

The only option(s) I have for the fan settings are as follows.....

Fan
low, high and off.

A/C
high, low, auto and off.

Electric heat
high, low and off

Gas Heat
high, low and off

If I set A/C to auto, the a/c unit still comes on with what I am assuming to be the heat pump.

Did you try turning off air and heat to low or high? Can you upload a pic of your thermostat

The manual does not help much. It covers the basic A/C. Mine came with a separate manual for the the heat strip option which told me that there was a heater in it. It does not really put out much heat. I have 2 A/C units on mine. The bedroom A/C has the heater option. The main A/C, the heater switch/thermostat controls the propane heater.

Heat pumps don't work below about 40 degrees Fahrenheit. That is why they need a heating element for cold weather. We had one in our house, and the air coming from the roof felt cold to us. When we checked it with a thermometer, it was coming out at 70 degrees. Takes a lot longer to warm things. It sounds like you don't have a heat strip, or that it isn't working.

Not true, however climate and geographical location are factors is sizing (among other things).

In the context of our campers, sure, heat pumps probably start to do nothing after a certain temperature drop.

They work extremely well if your hooked up to power. Also, propane furnaces throw out a lot of moisture. Your windows will be soaked in no time with the outside temp at 35.

Propane does introduce moisture when burning, however that is not put in your camper. The furnace exhaust is vented to the outside air.

Here is the full story of why this happens. Campers are pretty well sealed up. if you have people in it they are all breathing out moist air. It gets cold in the camper so you run a heater. Warm air holds much more moisture than cold air. So now you have warm very moist air. Any heater will warm the air and let moister be absorbed into it. When that warm moist air hits a cold window or cold walls it gives up it's moisture because when it gets cold it can't keep it's moisture. That is what fog is. Warmer moist air that gets cold and the moisture just can't stay absorbed in it and it falls out.

I wonder if it's like the one we have in our 2017 832IKBS Flagstaff. I am still trying to figure out this thing. I didn't even know there was such a thing as electric heat and I'm still not convinced there IS electric heat. Same learning curve on the touch pad Monitor panel. I think there are buttons there that we can't use or don't apply to our unit. Sorry - tried to attach pic but it just put in alot of code.
