Vents in stairs Chaparral

Does anyone have an idea why Chaparral put 2 vents in the stairs? I have a 2020 Coachman Chaparral 30 bhs. We noticed that the hallway is warmer because the vents are allowing the air from the basement storage area to enter. Thanks for any information.

Mark from Florida.

Likely the cold air return for the furnace. When running my ac I put plexiglass over the vents in the stairs to prevent the cold air from going into the storage compartment and under belly.

I removed the vents and carpeting and covered them with wooden risers. Guess I better install a regular vent that I can open & close when needed.

Thanks for the reply.
