Maybe they need a little more time. It is always fun to hear about how great the 5er tows. They don't know it is back there. All those numbers are simply a goal to exceed. It is their super driving skills that make them the safest rig on the road at 75 mph.

i have a friend that pulled a ultra lite fiver with a half ton he said it was red knuckle all the way all the time he went to a 3/4 diesel
now he is much happier
most 3/4 ton trucks will be over GVWR with about 2k pin weight

Ordered a then new '99 285 catalina 5'er and needed a truck. Back then a new '99 GM 3/4 ton was impossible to find, but every dealer had at least one dually on the lot (last year of body style). Do I wound up with a crew cab dually 454. Pass everything but a gas station. Lol! Overkill for that 30' trailer, but effortless towing was nice. 4 5'ers and 2 trucks later I'm still in a dually. Current truck is a 2005 dodge cummins dually bought new. Will haul and tow anything I can afford to buy. Never regretted getting a dually over a 3/4 ton.
As for weights there is a payload capacity, gvwr, gawr, and max pin weight. All relative, all different, all important. Unless you got a dually diesel, then you don't need to do the math. Lol!

I tow a 2017 LaCrosse 337 RKT with a 2011 Ram 3500 6.7L Cummins long bed crew cab. single axle. I use a hensley hitch. Love the power and stability! Once a Hensley owner, always a Hensley owner!

Since we are on this topic
My current tow vehicle is a 2005 Ford Excursion 4wd with the 6.0 Turbo Diesel. Before you start, yes I know all about them and the crap that comes with owning one of those lovely engines. Anyways, I feel that with my current trailer, 2017 coachmen Freedom Express 312BHDS LE, I am pushing the max capabilities of the truck. Tows good and all but just feel it not enough. That being said I am seriously looking to upgrade to a 2010 generation Chevy or GMC 1 ton DRW diesel. More power, better weight capabilities and so on. is this overkill or am I right to go bigger to be safer? I do know that I am loosing seating capacity but that's ok, just need the front split bench.
FYI the GCVW for the travel trailer is 10050 and the tongue weight rating from the factory is close to 1100.

if you do make the move to a 1 ton DRW i do not think you will in anyway be disappointed (except when it is time to buy tires) LOL
they are so much more stable even when not pulling anything
i love to drive mine i should have made that buy several years earlier

I am now going to be towing with. 2017 F350 DRW Crew cab. I had my Sierra 372LOK with a 15 f350 Crew SRW, and upgraded to a 2017 srw. Never thought about a dually. Towed it on. 3k mile trip. Mid trip I negotiated with the dealer, they brought in a dealer trade and i now own the same truck in a dually. Picked it up yesterday. I am super hopeful the sweaty palms go away with my new rig (I am confident they will since the new truck 4 months later). Be smart and over buy. I was about the limit of my other truck and now i can grow into a new camper some day (dont tell my DW).

2018 Ram and 2018 360bh (same as the Chaparral 360ibl). Have pulled over 3500 miles since we bought them in February... perfect setup. Much better than my old 2016 2500!
