air locked water pump

When our 2001 sandpiper 5th wheel shurflo water pump was working and not pumping water my son filled the water tank then attached the water hose to the camper inlet and let the water run from all the faucets then turned on the pump and then turned the water off to the hose. The pump began to suck water and air came through the line as the pump began to work.

Steps:

1. Add some water to the fresh water tank. (doesn't need to be full, just needs to have enough to work the pump)

2. Attach fresh water hose to the inlet (water hose attachment)

3. Turn on the water to the hose.

4. Turn on all the faucets.

5. Turn on the pump let it run for a minute (was not an exact length of time)

6. Turn off the water to the hose.

7. Check for water coming through the faucets.

8. Pump should continue to pump water

9. Turn off faucets.

10. Water pump should stop after a few seconds

11. Check pump by turning the faucet on and off, pump should start and stop properly now when water is on or off.

I'm not sure this is the correct way to solve the problem, but it sure did work.

Happy camping

Glad it worked for you and you got the pump working.

What you described is not normal and often using the pump with city water pressure attached (and on) will overcome the check valve in the pump if the city water pressure is high enough causing the fresh tank to fill/overflow.
