Bad water pump

Couple of things
- where is the antifreeze jug? Have the jug at about pump level, or close. The pump may be having an issue lifting the AF if the jug is on the ground.
- air lock? This often occurs with my 5th. Have to turn on and off 2-3 times to get flow going. Make sure you have a tap open.....
- hopefully, the pump is not shooting the antifreeze into FW tank!
- ensure the water heater is bypassed..."…

BTW.... if you have connected to a city water supply, don’t forget to winterize that portion of the line as well. (Remove rubber cap, pull strainer/washer from back flow and depress centre ‘button’. You should get some AF shooting back out of the city water connection). Be quick and turn pump off, exercise back flow to ensure it is seated properly.....

My Columbus F320 takes about 2 gallons to look after all the waterlines including washing machine. Another gallon for toilet, tanks etc. We have no wet traps in this trailer.

Good luck!

Guess i wasn't clear.
The pump is easily accessible in my 5vr's basement.
I have completely separated out the campers lines and have a hose going from my ice cream pail of pink stuff, through a ~2' hose, to the pump and then back to the bucket. And i get nothing. Everything is on the same level, within inches of each other.

They have high pressure flex hose on both sides. The inlet is on the left because that's the side the filter was on and the other side clearly goes to all the blue/red rigid lines.

One of the high pressure white flex hoses on the right side of the photo is from the outlet of the pump. The other is the city water connection one that goes straight to a blue rigid line. At the bottom middle you see 2 flex high pressure lines going into the underbelly. The one off the pump is the inlet going to the FW tank. I'm not sure where the long one coming out goes to...maybe a vent for the FW tank?

Where does the clear vinyl tube at the center of your photo go to? I see it's connected to a selector valve. Methinks nothing is on the other end of that hose and that is where you are going to suck the AF into the system. Maybe?? Most of the other comments in the thread apply. From what I can see in your pic, the selector valve is positioned to let the pink in through the clear vinyl tube

That's the winterizing kit i just installed because i got chastised here for putting the pink stuff in the FW tank like i've done all my camping life. That hose goes to a ice cream pail filled with pink stuff.

I had the same problem after installing the winterizing kit. The fitting that attaches the clear hose to the valve was sucking air and wouldn't prime the pump with af. I had to install an o-ring on the fitting and then it worked perfectly.

I know for certain the straight adapter that goes between the winterizing t fitting and the pump had a rubber gasket on both sides. Plus i used pipe tape.
I don't recall if the clear tube fitting had a gasket or not, but i did use pipe there as well.

Like i said, and like you can see in the pink bucket photo, i can only lift the water 1/2" or so.

Found a number for Surflo/Pentair and talked to them. Their only thought, since it's happend on two pumps, is that the seals are dry and they need some liquid to lubricate them so that they can pull prime. So they suggested i pour water into the inlet side and see what happens.

They also noted that if i put my finger over the inlet side of the pump i should get a strong suction....which i'm not, on either pump.

When i did mine the winterize valve was backwards.

Willie1280, I was going to suggest you do what you did in post 20. Cut out all variables except a bucket, a hose in and one open hose out.

You said, in this configuration you had 'nada '. Can you add some details? I know it means no pink stuff made it through. Hiw about air? Was the pump making noise? Etc. For me, while I also used plumbers tape, my connects on the inlet side weren't quite tight enough, letting air into the system, rather than pumping the pink stuff. All I needed was another 1/2 turn to get things to work.

If it were me, I'd go back to that configuration to eliminate all other variables until you can get the pump (or a new pump if necessary to pull pink stuff out of the bucket and pump in straight to another bucket. Then I'd reconnect the pump output to the rest if the camper. Good luck.

Skip12...The 1/2" or so it lifted in the clear tube is the best i got. I've tightend everything possible without going to far as to strip the plastic threads. Fingers crossed that adding some mositure will solve the problems....just kinda weird both pumps are having the same issue. Maybe the cold weather already has something to do with it.

It is sucking air. Try putting an 0-ring on the clear tube fitting. Thread tape and tightening won't work.

Yeah, sounds to me that its sucking air, as well. Ensure each fitting has an o-ring and eliminate as many fittings as you can. Until you get it working, I'd remove the bypass winterization kit and connect the bypass hose directly to the pump. In that case, you just need one o ring. If that works, you can start adding parts, or winterize your camper and figure the rest out when it warms up.

So I put the old pump back in. Hooked outlet to camper lines. Then hooked up the clear tube and corresponding fitting (not the T, just the barbed clear tube fitting) direct to the inlet. I cinched down with a wrench as tight as possible, poured a little pink stuff in the line and it worked! She sucked great after that. Got all the lines filled with pink stuff.

After that I hooked the entire system back together, inlet hose form FW tank, filter, winterizing T with clear tube mounted in the center outlet, and the straight adapter....motor and outlet still hooked up as noted above. Flipped the winterizing valve over and tried sucking more pink stuff, nothing again. So I feel like either the T or the straight adapter are a culprit. So I removed the “winterizing” kit. Still couldn’t pull and liquid from FW tank. So there must be an air leak somewhere on the inlet side, or something is frozen already in the tank.
I’ll be camping next week with the furnace, so maybe after the camper is heated up good I’ll see if I can suck anything from the FW tank.

Did you try the o-ring on the clear tube fitting?
