Black Tank Help

We purchased a 2020 Arctic Fox 5th wheel and would like suggestions of products to use to help coat the black tank to help with keeping it clean & the sensorsreading from failing.

Before we depart, we use liquid laundry softener with about a gallon of hot water. We've got the tank flush and use it after every trip.

Don't spend money on fancy additives. Consider the "Geo method". It's a simple combination of borax water softener, laundry detergent, and bleach, and the bleach is optional.

Water softener is not the same as fabric softener. The latter may actually cause more stuff to stick to the walls and sensors than if you didn't use anything at all.

Two Main things to do:

#1 Use plenty of water in your tank. You don't say how big your tanks are but if you have a fifth wheel trailer, I'm going to assume at least 40 gallons for black and gray and likely more than that for fresh.

I put almost a quarter tank of fresh water in my black tank after I empty it. Black tanks generally fill much slower than gray tanks so you are usually going to have to go dump when the gray fills and you will still have room in the black.
Having plenty of water in the black tank will help everything that goes in there break down quicker and more completely.

#2 use a RV/Septic tank compatible toilet paper. We use the Scotts Rapid Dissolving TP. Have also used CAMCO's RV TP and like the guy in the below video, preferred the Scotts.

Below is a link to a guy I follow on Youtube doing a TP test. Test your favorites and find one that dissolves well with a couple shakes like he does.

Lastly, if you have odors, you can add a tank treatment. Many people rave about Happy Camper (found on Amazon). We use Camco's TST MAX which is a little cheaper and has worked for us.

First night we do dishes all the soapy and rinse water is collected in a Rubbermaid tote in the sink.

My job is to pour it into the toilet before the first major deposit. I. E. As said, lots of water to start. We buy Scott’s rv paper at Wallmart. Already learned that lesson!

The Calgon water softener from Home Depot and Dawn.

To get my sensors to read properly in the black tank takes a couple of flushes. Makes dump stations kind of hard to use. Do not want to make others wait doing that. We try to make our last stop a full service campsite.
