A picture is worth a thousand words

Although that has never stopped me before!

The yellow wire is 1/3 full
The Green wire is 2/3 full
The Red wire is full

As you can see, one good flush or two will turn on the 1/3 light.
the 2/3 light is about half full
The FULL light is about 7/8 full

NEVER dump below 2/3 and try to always dump with the full light on.

If below 2/3 light run the flush water until the full light comes on; then dump.

so very true. i had to tell that to the GF. she kept dumping it when it started to stink... now i gotta get the levels up and dump over and over again to get the "crap" flowing out.

another good tip. when its "finished" dumping, dump another 5 gallons down the toilet to get more solids and paper to come. if nothing comes dont dump any more down or you might wash it out too well and the bacteria colony will become weak.

Not a big fan of the "bacteria colony" group. I sanitize my septic system with bleach each season and flush and turbo regularly. While I know it is not possible, I would like to keep my gray and Black tanks as squeaky as the fresh tank.

I just pulled my black water sensors today. The sealing grommet was mushroomed and the the sensor was kind of recessed into the center. The resrssed area was full of hardened "crap". I have tried bags of ice, Calgon, Flushing wands. nothing really helped. I replaced them with Horst sensors. Hope that works

The sensor "cap" should have been even with the rubber grommet. If it was "inside" the rubber, it was overtorqued when was installed.

The rubber sleeve is supposed to "crush" and seal the hole when installed. You did notice that the black tank probe "shield" went on top, right? The gray tank probes do not have TP shields.

The trailer is a 99 Jayco. I bought a few years ago, sensors never did work right that's why I changed them. I don't know if it came from factory or someome removed them to clean but they were really torqued. The sensor was embedded into the rubber. The rubber was so flaired on the inside of tank that the flaired part tore partway off. I guess I'm anal. I can look down the toilet to see how full the tank is. And yes I did install new ones with hood on top. Changing gray water while I'm at it.

So much for the great horst black water probes. Installed probes and every thing read 0. After one week of camping I dumped black water tank. After rinsing twice I checked monitor again only to discover it read 1/3. I rinsed again and checked monitor and still 1/3. I just wasted time and money replacing old probes with Horst probes.

Jim,

I am really sorry your experience with them was not as good as mine (so far).

Some things to check (assuming you want to drop your belly pan again) is the lowest probe being oriented correctly. I almost rotated mine out of alignment when I tightened up the wire nut. I wear bifocals and of course the focal length at arm's length sucks. I can read and drive fine, but shooting a rifle or working over my head with tools is a challenge. Trying to fine focus at that distance is darn near impossible.

The only way for that probe to be "on" is for there to be an electrical connection between the probe wire and the ground probe. If you are not getting a complete dump for any reason the "1/3" probe will be under water. Since the ground and the "on" probe are at the same level in the tank, it won't take much to turn it on legitimately. The dump valve is not at the very bottom either. Some water will always be in the tank unless you let it dry out with the valve open.

In my camper, one #1 flush will turn on that light.
It is really a "Not Empty" light.

As you can see from the picture of the tank, it will not take much sludge in the bottom of the tank to keep that light on. Maybe an RV-Digest-it treatment for 24-48 hours might be in order.
