Black water cross connect

I recently became aware of a person flushing their black water tank with a hose from the potable water tap at a dump station. The potable water tap is a self draining hydrant type for frost protection so when shut off it drains including back flow from the attached hose. The tap is signed for potable water use only. This could be potential for contamination, have others encountered this?

Yep. And people do it at full hookup campsites as well. It's a good idea to wipe down any spigot you are going to connect your trailer's freshwater system to with a sanitizing wipe.

If there is a tap intended for potable water close enough to a dump station, you have to realize someone will use it to rinse black tank and sewer hose.
Most taps near dump stations I use have a sign saying not to use them as a potable water source. Not that anyone pays attention to that either

I see a lot of people using the fresh water at sites to rinse the sewer hoses.

Excluding sewer dump hose rinse there is no way to "cross contaminate" the black holding tank factory installed cleanout provision.

You mean because of the vacuum breaker valve found in the line to the black tank flushing connection on the tank?

Thanks for all the info. I still think that it is best to error on the side of caution & stay safe. There is a reason why most potable water taps are kept well away and signed.

x2. Wiping down is a good idea. In addition to people, bugs and critters have been known to drink from the water left over in water spigots.
Cross contamination is one reason we only drink gallon water from home or the store. People on vacation sometimes don't think...
