Black Water Valve Opposite Side Doesn't seem to close

We have a 2020 Forester on a Chevy Base. For some strange reason the black water valve is on the opposite side of the discharge outlet and grey water valve. We open black water first. when complete, we open grey water, then close black, then close grey. We notice that there still seems to be some black water in the discharge outlet. Is there something that we are not doing correctly?

in other RVs we have rented, once the valves were closed, and the grey water went through, there was nothing in the outlet.
