Broken foot pedal for toilet

I was just checking my toilet on my fifth wheel, which is stored in my driveway for the freezing Michigan winter. When I stepped on the footpedal in an attempt to see if I could put more fluid in the toilet to keep the gasket from drying out , The pedal snapped right off of it's mooring.
Can this piece, see photo, be replaced, or do I need to buy a whole new toilet? Please say I don't have to buy a new toilet!
Thanks in advance for any assistance that can be offered this matter.Click image for larger version

Depends on the maker, most offer exploded parts views on line with part numbers and prices. Otherwise go to PPL, other parts supply houses.
Next time add some warm water to the bowl prevent seizing.

I say call Dometic. Be polite but insistent. You never know they might just
offer you a new one.
I once got a free upgrade from a hand lever flush to a foot pedal flush just
by asking the manufacturer. By upgrade I mean they UPSed me a new toilet
for free. Really.

Good Luck!

Sounds like your water valve had water in it and froze up so that the ramp on the foot-lever couldn't depress it and put too much side-stress on the center post. Since its out of warranty, I'd try epoxying it (I'm partial to JB Weld these days). I'd be prepared to replace the valve in the spring too - watch for water spraying out of it when you first put water pressure in the lines (don't ask me how I know). They are available at most RV parts stores (but they are in short supply in the spring - don't ask me how I know that too).

I had problems with my toilet and spent a week tracking down parts, taking out toilet replacing parts and reinstalling toilet only to end up buying a new toilet anyway. Easier to get a whole new toilet .

So I had these big klutzy boots on because we had just gotten 8 inches of snow ,here in Grand Rapids Michigan ,when I depressed the footpedal and I'm sure that the valve seal was probably frozen shut so that's what caused it. I think the first thing that I'll do, as suggested ,is contact Domestic and see what they can do for me. The part, with the actual shaft included, is not available. So, as suggested above I think I will have no option but to get a new toilet. Therefore, I have nothing to lose by contacting Dometic. thanks to everyone for all of your suggestions. I'll let everybody know how my conversation goes with Dometic.

Repair of Toilet.

I've repaired a few broken shafts with success with splints and JB Weld.
What you may try is to pull the toilet and bring it in the house to warm up. Lay it in it's side with the broken area up. Cut a piece of flat or rectangular metal long enough to fit into the broken shaft as a splint. JB Weld or Epoxy glue it into the lever end and let it dry. Be sure NOT to get weld/glue on the broken mating surface, just inside the shaft. Once it's dry (24Hrs), put some JB weld/epoxy glue in the broken toilet shaft with a thin coat on the mating surface and assemble making sure they mate properly. Let dry.

pedal flush

Good info. Also cold here in the Bay City (Michigan) area and I will make sure if I neen to add a bit of antifreeze I will just pour a bit in the toilet and not try to open the flush valve.

Retired AF... thanks so much for your suggestion regarding the "splint" ... given my luck and great mechanical prowess, I would probably complete the repair in several hours of knuckle bloodied cursing and would be boondocking in the desert several weeks later and would hear a scream from coming from the bathroom from my lovely travel companion. I leave it to the imagination of our readers as to the source of the cry, but I'm sure unfettered toilet spray would cause even the most sweet tempered lady to quickly adopt a foul mood. Therefore, in the interest of maintaining domestic peace, I will own up to my klutziness and fork over the $129 for a new toilet.

Good to see a fellow Michigander on the forum; especially someone from Mural City ( dating myself) or was it the city from which The Bay City Rollers derived their name, using a map and dart board? Regardless, it was my original intent to pour more RV anti-freeze to keep my rubber toilet gasket moist that got me in to trouble to begin with. Oh, well...it will probably be May before this white deluge melts, so I have plenty of time to complete whatever repair I undertake.
Meantime, have a sub at Grandpa Tony's and try to get through the winter unscathed.

There was just a thread in the past couple of days where someone did what you did with a Dometic 310; they called Dometic and were told they needed a whole new toilet. Tried to search for the thread, but couldn't find it.

Thanks for trying...I'm definitely calling them on Monday and sending pictures. Anybody have suggestions for strategy in approaching Dometic? I'm thinking about an insanity plea...

Most of us have had to do some type of repair to the toilet. I have replaced the internal water valve, compression fittings, even reinstalled a "slipped off" foot valve. But when the big mother vacuum took the spring off the, well the repair shop said we charge $80.00 a hour and I have a new one here with the discount coupon at $140.00. Lets say my three time overhaul got replaced. The foot valve wasn't the same after it "slipped off" the first time anyway. I say buy the new one and keep the old for spare parts.
