CC Black Tank Waste Valve

Pulled black tank valve this a.m. to empty contents and all went well until I closed the valve to add some water to enhance dump, but valve pull would not budge from closed position. Fortunately in closed position tank contents could be seen still emptying. Opened underbelly and able to see that the 2-pronged section that slides over the body of the valve was twisted. I straightened up this piece and valve handle went to open position; however, when adding water to tank through flush, the tank continued to drain no matter where the pull handle was stationed. Does anyone know if that 2-pronged (5-6 inches long plus pronged body of about 3 inches or so) part is suppose to be somehow secured better to the cable? Hard to get a grip on the unsheathed cable part, i.e. the steel rod, to see about operating the valve blade. Am about 4 hours from nearest CC dealer and local RV dealer in his 'wisdom' or lack thereof knows nothing about CC's and thus unable to help me. Was at Amish Family RV mid September but 4 day drive back to see them regardless of timing.

Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
