Changing Water Filter

I just purchased a 2014 Rockwood 2905SS. Installing the water filter was a pain. They charged the water system to show me how everything worked but left the filter out so they were not wasting it they said.Does anyone have a better system for changing it, there is no drain so water spills everytime you have to do it.Once a year may not be alot but I would have thought there would be a better way. Thanks in advance for any help.

I put a coffee can under mine when changing.

I've thought about installing a petcock at the bottom tho.

Hmmmmmm thanks for reminding me.

No, that's it. My unit has the filer in the hookups areas, which has a hole where the hoses come up through, that can act as a drain, so no big deal. Works the same in a house.

Those wont help at all. You simply depressurize the system by opening a faucet with the water pump off. But even once that is done, you will get a cup or more of water out when you change it.

Similar to Turbs, I usually just grab one of our throw away Tupperware containers to put under it, then open slowly. I use a blow out valve (similar to winterizing) and get a little bit of water out of it first which does help.

What do you mean it won't help?
This will drain the entire filter assembly.
He probably doesn't want water all over the floor if its in a tight location.
Of course you have to relive the pressure before removing bowl.
This petcock would drain it.

O.K., it may help some. But it will still spill water, from the line, as well as the unit itself. So even though it will drain some of the water, as you still are going to spill water, it's of dubious value.

I use a garbage bag in a coffee can and don't get water on anything. Just slip the bag up, slide the can under the canister with the bag over the canister and un-screw it. No pain, no strain and no water anywhere except in the bag and the can.

I've been stuffing a bath towel under the filter housing. Since it's in the seperate compartment with all the water fills etc, if it gets a lil' bit wet just mop it up and let it air dry. The compartment has a big scew-off lid to route my water hoses and tv cable down and out the bottom.

Yes Turbo that is exactly what it looks like, and thanks everyone for your response's. I have previously owned a pop-up and water was the enemy. I just figured they would have had a better system.I will think about all these response's, I like the idea of being able to drain water first then taking the filter out. Thanks again everyone.

My answer to the "VERY hard to get at and change" problem was to remove it and install an accumulator. I use a filter at the hose bib to filter the water going into the camper and I can use that same filter when I need to add water to the fresh tank.
