City water hook up fills fresh water tank

Hello so we just bought our Forest River Wolf pup at the end of February. We took it out for one night and noticed that when we hooked it up to the city water it filled our fresh water tank. Per advice from people and the mechanic from where we bought it from we ran the pump several times and yet it still continues to fill the tank Any other advice? I"m looking under our camper and it looks all so foreign to me. Its still under warranty so we can take it in if needed.

You've tried the easy solutions and they didn't work. You don't want to do anything that would void that warranty.

Time to take it in under warranty.

Often a new TT will have construction debris in the plumbing which can get through to the water pump check valve. It can take multiple attempts at throttling the pump on and off (turning a faucet on and off) to clear whatever is preventing the check valve from closing. Its also important to NOT run the water pump while connected to city water.

Welcome to the forum..

If you didn't depressurize the line after shutting down city water you didn't give the pump valve a chance to reset. Did you follow all the steps?

Shut off city water
Release pressure
Cycle pump on build pressure
Turn off pump
Release pressure
Turn city water back on.

If that does not work you can put another backflow valve on at the pump...beats trying to rebuild the pump or waiting on warranty work.

Don't turn on your pump when hooked to city water to prevent the problem.

Screws on and would not void any warranty. Worth the $5 if you have trouble again.

Good luck.

Right idea but perhaps wrong part. The one in the link is a 1" MPT and most pump inlets are 1/2" MPT.

Just make sure to order the right one. E-Trailer has one in each possible size used on an RV water pump.

If trailer has a fresh tank fill located on the side of the trailer, can't help. Something's wrong at the pump....or plumbed wrong.
But, my trailer fills fresh tank from the city water inlet. A small selector switch above the city connection routes the water into the tank, or into the fresh city system. My trailer has no external fresh tank filler per se.
If the selector isn't fully in the correct position, it'll feed both systems and overflow the fresh tank. Bad ju-ju if that happens.

City water fills fw tank

Age old problem. 90% probability your check valve on the water pump is overcome by the City Water pressure.- Either the Check Valve is bad or the city water pressure is too high. Try a pressure reducer first. Otherwise, a new pump. Happened to me twice.

Does your shower have a hot water shower miser installed? If yes you have to close that valve or your city water will fill your fresh water tank.

If the pump is the culprit, remove it and disassemble the pump head. You'll likely find trash in the check valve. Probably reassemble and go. The manufacturers often give a bit more "stuff" for the bucks...
I found a piece of plywood in the black tank, not a FR unit, when dumping (discretely) somewhere and couldn't shut the valve off. BUMmer.
