Device on water pump

My last trailer didn't have this, but it is a clear piece, attached at the inlet side of the pump. I think it's the water filter. Do I need to do anything special for it when I winterize?

A pic or two would be helpful.

Is the piece round? If it is like mine, it's a filter housing and mine came loose once and started leaking and I tracked it down to the housing coming loose and leaking.

It is a coarse filter to inlet of water pump. You can unscrew cap and clean it, then re-install and your good to go winterizing.

If its small like the above pic, its a strainer, you can remove and clean and replace. If you are talking a clear plastic container about 9" long with a filter in it, you need to remove filter before you winterize.

It's the small one in the pic. After I clean it then it's fine to shoot the anti freeze through it?

If you live in a freeze zone, get the water out of the filter bowl and/or put anti-freeze in it or it may/will crack the plastic bowl. (It only happened to me once )
