Dewinterizing

First time dewinterizing my Rockwood A122S and cannot find this answer. When flushing out the faucets do I leave the filter out of the cannister still until water is clean and then reinstall the filter? And should I flush out the antifreeze out of the cannister just by turning the faucet on or should I remove the cannister, empty it out and reinstall and then procede to flushing out the faucets?

Thanks

You left the filter cartridge in the housing, when winterizing with antifreeze? [emoji3063]

If filter is OUT right now, leave it out. Flush system, running water through filter housing too. Once antifreeze is gone, remove housing, clean it out with little bit of soap and water, reinstall filter and put it back on.

If filter is IN right now, remove filter first. Then proceed with other steps. Then REPLACE filter with new one.

I saw a good tip on You Tube where a guy puts a full bottle of water in the cannister before winterizing. This takes up quite a bit of volume and lessens the amount of antifreeze used. As for me, I removed the inline cannister filter completely. going to go with the inline hose filter. Removing the cannister (which was a PITA to get to) also makes less connections to leak...

Not sure why you'd put a full bottle of water inside something you are trying to keep from freezing? Ever seen a bottle of water bulge and break the cap when put in the freezer?

I've seen recommendations to pour the water out and use an empty bottle or pour antifreeze in the bottle for reuse year after year or put golf balls in the canister (and even marbles) but I sure wouldn't use a full bottle of water.

Your mileage may vary...

You make a good point. But if a bottle of water is surrounded by antifreeze I would bet that it would not freeze. Either way, I won't worry about it since I removed the entire filter cannister.

R/V antifreeze can and does freeze when cold enough. It just doesn't expand like water.
A water bottle would freeze even if surrounded by antifreeze once the antifreeze temperature got to freezing. It isn't an insulator.

And you are right... you'll never need to worry about it but others reading this thread might.

If a bottle of water was surrounded by antifreeze it would freeze as soon as the anti freeze hit 32 . the antifreeze would stay fluid but the water bottle would freeze .
