Make sure to rinse the black water tank very well. Little things get stuck on the full sensors and give false readings. We flush the heck out of the black tank when packing up and leave about a gallon of fresh water in the tank along with the nice smelling additives. When you drive along it sloshes around to keep the tank clean.

Received my new 300 Dometic toilet on Friday. Installed it on Sunday afternoon in about 30 minutes. Smell seems to be gone, and this one will actually hold water in the bowl. Headed to Myrtle Beach in a couple of days for a week. Time will tell, but I think the problem is solved.

Use the GEO method of treating the black tank. Do a search on this forum for the discussion, or do a Google search on it. But most opinions are that it is what works best, maybe not in every case, but in the majority.

I have read the 300s have a faulty seal as others mentioned. I just purchased a new TT and ours is a 300, I contacted Dometc regarding what I have been reading and sent them my serial number they replied quickly and said the problem was fixed at some point, so they are aknowleding the issue and were fast to respond. I would contact them as others indicated they were easy and quick to repalce them.

My dealer just replaced our 300 with a 310 ceramic bowl. The flap valve was loose on ours. Roskopfs RV in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin has been great so far.

My 2014 V-Lite (bought new in July 2014) was in for several small warranty items. The dealer said they had never heard of the stinky toilet problem. They tried to blame it on the way I treat the black tank (dump, black flush, then chemical pack and 2 gallons of water). They backed off when I explained this was my 4th year of RVing and I'd never had an odor problem before. They said they couldn't do anything because it wasn't leaking. When I told them about all that I had read on here, they still weren't convinced.

I came back to the forums and re-read that you just need to call Dometic with the model and serial number. I passed that on to the dealer and they called Dometic. Dometic told my dealer that my 310 wasn't part of the original problem model, but they were starting to get calls about them, too. So, they're sending a new toilet to the dealer overnight.

The dealer thanked me for solving the problem. I thank y'all for the information! I hope this info can help someone else.

The dealers should take a few moments from there money gouging days and read up on their products.. My dealer was told several times about the domestic issue even though I fixed it myself. . They still have no idea.

fatjack I see in your post you emailed Diane Staman and got results others have called her. Can you relay her contact information? I also have a 300 series in my 2014 Cherokee and have a winter trip scheduled for 11/8 and need some quick results. My other questions would be for all the folks who have replaced on their own, how does this affect your warranty and how do you dispose of the old unit.

Any help is much appreciated.

Final note, I contacted Dometic and gave them my serial number and sure enough it's a defective toilet and they are sending me a replacement due to arrive next Wednesday. If nothing else their customer support is the best.

Thanks to all for the valuable information.

We got the replacement just after we bought the TT. Had a little less than a year with no stinky issues. I take good care of my black tank which helps a lot too. Just because you got the new 300, make sure you give your black tank a ton of care.

We had a bad 300 toilet, and I called Dometic and they sent me a new one to Whithorse, YT, on our ALCAN trip in May. Now we are on the road to Phoenix, AZ and have been on the road two weeks, and have had no odor problems since we received the replacement.

Smile Caring for Black Water Tank

After dumping the black water tank, you might want to consider adding a half bottle of dishwashing soap along with whatever deodorant you use and make sure to add a few gallons of water. All of the movement while you're going to and from camping will help to clean the tank.

Send a picture of the serial number to dometic to see if you have one of the old non updated commodes. If yours is one of them, Dometic will send you a replacement. Takes about 10/20 minutes to change out.
