Nothing wrong with flushing now and then but to flush for 30-45 minutes or filling the tank multiple times and dumping each time you empty your tank is simply not necessary.

It's just a holding tank.
Use enough water initially and during each flush and you won't have problems... ever!

I don't use the black flush every time. If there is ever anyone behind me in line, it isn't getting used. I am rarely in a campground with sewer hookups.

I just bought a macerator pump so now, will likley only be used at home occasionally.

We are on a seasonal site and try to flush my tanks every couple of weeks or so. We can definitely start to smell when it needs to be done.

I'm always amazed at how much "stuff" comes out when I run it *after* dumping my tank.

And every few weeks on a seasonal site and every half dozen or so times for weekend campers is good.

My comment was towards those that camped for two days and then spend hours cleaning their black tanks trying to get them squeaky clean.

We all know who they are as we've been behind them at the dump station or parked next to them in a campground. They think nothing of holding up the line or adding hundreds of extra gallons of water to a campground's septic. (filling and flushing a 40 gallon tank three times or more)

It is wasteful and totally unnecessary.
