Filling the water storage tank

Last week we pulled in after dark in the pouring rain.

Yep, broke rule one, never drive after dark!

Forgot to instal the water pressure regulator. Mistake#2. Been here several times.

Got distracted while filling. Mistake #3.

Wife reported the floor of the rv had risen.

Water turned off. Rv park did not tell me their water pressure was over 100 psi.

Eventually, the tank deflagulated. Sort of came apart. One bang. 80 gallons on the ground.

Yep three mistakes.

Never assume anything at an rv park.

The Boondocking Way

Sorry to hear the bad news and hope you get things working again.

We arrive at night several times and just the way it is for us. Different lighting devices is key (spot, lanterns, head.) Setting up/breaking down any camp site in the dark is a skill more people should have. I mostly always wind up doing it all since others are busy enjoying themselves.

We also carry full tanks and don't rely on anything besides an area to get into.

My tank is gravity feed so when it gets full I get sprayed with water. Even with that, I have a vent on the tank that blows water before it it completely full.

Not sure of your tank but I'm thinking it must not be vented, or the venting route is overpowered by 100psi.

As far as dark arrivals is concerned, I found out after 2 years of ownership that I have a light by my 30A connection. Who knew!

This sounds like something that would happen to me given how easily I'm distracted by shiny objects...

Sorry to hear the tank exploded. Even an overflow pipe can't deal with 100 psi.

We attach the water pressure regulator to the water hose so that we don't forget it. It also helps us remember to remove it when leaving a campsite.

A water measuring device like this will let you know how much water is filling your tank. https://www.amazon.com/P3-Measure-Ga...xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
Kind of hard to use in the rain and dark without an umbrella and a flashlight though.

Happy hour is a must for us.

We rarely drive after 4 pm.

That was a day we were just off track all day.

It is amazing the little things the rv crowd has to remember. Hook the shore power first. Install the pressure regulator second.

We have an in-line pressure regulator that we leave attached to our hose. Can't forget to attach it. We have had no problems in over 15+ years.
