Fresh water tank

Hi ,
Something I need to ask. Is there a way to install a drain at a low point of fresh water tank. It seems the fresh water drain captures a couple of gallons of water. I would like to drain the tank completely for winter storage. I know how to sanitize the tank, but I like to drain it completely. I see the tank through the cubby storage where the water pump is located. Is there a after market drain fitting for a DIYer?

You could install a bulkhead fitting, but that probably wouldn't help with the water retention because it would protrude into the tank a ½" or near it. I don't know of a fitting that would work that wouldn't protrude into the tank at least some amount.

Those tank fittings are usually spun welded into the tanks and they're usually not installed into the bottom of the tank so completely draining them is pretty much impossible.

An extreme fix would be to order a new sloped bottom tank with an NPT fitting welded into the bottom of the tank at the lowest end.

I understand your thought process but if you are concerned about freezing during winter storage, the few gallons left in there won't cause an issue. Plenty of room for expansion.

If you simply want to extract the remaining water, your only solutions are a suction hose through the filler (if possible) or somehow removing the tank to drain it.

As Bama mentioned, drilling and installing a new tank drain at the bottom of a side wall or bottom, (bulkhead) will still leave a small amount of water in there.

Hi,

I empty mine while parked at a dump station, leave the drain valve open, and drive to my storage lot.

My theory is that sloshing around during the drive will get residual water out. But I also have been known to drive the off side tires up on my levelling ramp while parked, to tilt the tank toward the drain and get maximum draining effect that way.

FWIW.
