fresh water tank drain

I have a 22 Coachman Northern Spirit, 1840

I hit a small deer that went under the truck and trailer. The freshwater tank drain was slightly hit damaging the seal between the tank and drainpipe. It now leaks at the seal. There was no damage to the pipe or the tank, only appears that it broke the seal. In my research as to what caulk or glue I found that RV tanks are made of a plastic that is very difficult to glue, or caulk. I contacted Coachman customer service and was told they just use an ABS glue to install the drain valve. So, I'm just checking to see if what I was told is accurate, and if anyone else has had the problem and had a fix that worked.

ABS pipe cement is really a plastic solvent (probably MEK) and a gel (Naphtha?) It truly melts the pipe and then quickly evaporates, fusing the pieces. If you can get the area really clean and really dry before starting, you should be able to get a good bond. Daub the product on both parts heavily, Press the two parts together and hold them without moving for sixty seconds. Then don't touch them for 24 hours. Not rocket science, just takes a steady hand.

Lots of places don't carry true ABS pipe cement any more. They carry a "universal" product that's supposed to be good for both ABS and PVC. I would not trust it for this job. Home Depot claims to have it\\ABS cement, but it might be only at the larger stores. I know that's the case at Lowe's. Amazon has it, too.
