Fresh water tank over flowing
I have a 2013 Palomino Columbus and when I hook up water at the camp the fresh water tank fills up and over flows. Dealers want $145 an hour or more and won't give advice. Anyone else have this problem or a cure. Looked for a shut off but didn't see one.

Try this
The check valve on your water pump is not seating properly, allowing city water to fill the fresh water tank. One thing to try:
1) Turn off city water at the source;
2) Turn on your water pump and open-and-close various faucets in your camper allowing the water pump to cycle on and off;
3) Turn off water pump, open a faucet and relieve water pressure;
4) Turn city water back on.

I will add it works better if after turning off city water then relieve the pressure before turning on your water pump. In either case you should let the water pump cycle 2 or 3 times before going back on city water. And never run your water pump while using city water.

Thanks guys did just as you said and it looks like it took care of my problem. The water pump switch is next to the water heater switch so it probably got turned on by accident. Again thanks for the help.

Well I guess I just can't win. Checked water tank and it's half full. Guess I'll pull the pump and check it out after the weekend and I get some more fishing and catching in. Thanks again for the advice I think it's on the right track.

You can also add an inline check valve at the outlet of your fresh pump such as this:
https://www.amazon.com/Camco-23303-B.../dp/B000EDUTN6
but the problem is 100% definitely failure of the check valve built into the water pump.

I had the same problem and it is the check valve in the water pump. Try recycling the pump a couple times and see it it stops. If that works then good, if not then you will have to replace the pump.

Calcium or debris in the fresh water tank check valve. This is a good 'Red Flag' on why, when camping, the the 'city water' should be shut off when not at the camper. If the check valve or any of the water pipes have an issue, a lot of water damage could happen if not caught in time.

This is a known issue with those pumps and there are loads of comments about it on this forum. It beats me why shureflo hasn't come up with a solution.

a spec of anything could possibly keep the check valve slightly open and cause a slight back flow leak. Pure, clean water is impossible to have as all water has some type of substance (ie. minerals) in it. The pump manufacturer can not control all of the environmental issues that may come along and be pulled into the pump.

water filling fresh water tank
Had the same problem. purchased an adjustable pressure regulator and set the pressure a little below 50lbs and it solved the problem. The check valves on these pumps are only rated for about 50 lbs and campgrounds have to run high pressure on their water lines to supply everyone.

Good point. We connect a generic pressure regulator. Does anyone know what pressure the manufacturer is typically setting these for?
BTW, if almost everyone is using some kind of water pressure regulator, and one person is not, does he get ALL of the excess pressure?

Good points. My first thought when I read your reply was that this happened when the trailer was brand new so it must have been the pump manufacturer's fault. Then I remembered how much remaining saw dust and crap is produced during the build process, so I guess I can't really blame the pump maker. BTW, the dealer said the only fix was to replace the pump. It was under warranty, so there was no cost to me. Just annoyance. Now I know about adding another check valve,

Well I thank all who have replied and I think I'm going with the shut off valve. Sounds like the best bet for me. My pump works great but like my kids won't shut off (up)
