Galley 1 1/2" valve repair

Had a small leak past this valve since we bought our FW. So, I finally bit the bullet over the Holidays (was 60 degrees and sunny here), to remove the old valve. Once I removed the valve and was able to see the black pipe system it did not take long to figure out the problem. During manufacturing, PVC glue got into the valve and boogered it up so it did not seal or operate well. You can see the glue inside the pipe in the attached pic.

Now for the challenge...I could not find just a replacement valve so that I did not have to replace the cable too (replacing cable would be a real pain). So, I went to the RV store and compared my old cable operated valve to a new manual pull valve. The shaft on the manual was about 1/2 shorter. BUT, it was threaded. So, I bought it and went straight to Lowes where I picked up a stainless nut and coupler. I then drilled and shaped the coupler so that my old cable end would go thru it and "hopefully" function like the original one. The valve alone was only $15. If I have to buy the entire new cable and valve...that's $50-75. Has anyone else run into this challenge? If so, how did you solve it? Just curious and bored here on this cold rainy day. Will be a few days before I can reinstall it since it's now raining and 35 degrees out. (See pics of my handy work)
