Geo method question

I was getting ready for winter and wanted to flush the gray tank with a little diluted bleach (I noticed a slight smell recently) and decided to check the owners manual when I read this:

"NEVER use chlorine or caustic chemicals such as drain openers or laundry bleach in your toilet."

It also says not to use anything other than deodorizers specifically made for an RV system in the gray tank.

I don't get why laundry bleach is a problem? Am I missing something. I thought it was ok to use in holding tanks. I was hoping to use it to clean out the gray tank (1/2 cup sitting in the tank for a few hours before dumping it) but now I'm not too sure. Anyone have any idea?

We have been successfully using bleach, water softener, and Gain laundry detergent. We have had zero odor problems since we began using this method. Your mileage may vary.

We use a little bleach along with 1/2 cup both laundry detergent and Calgon powder and haven't had any problems...seems to work great.

The bleach can damage the rubber seals on the toilet since you will dilute the bleach and put it staight into the tank it should be fine been doing it for years

I had been using liquid Calgon and finally found the powdered stuff on Amazon. As for the rest, have been using powder detergent, the liquid Calgon and no bleach, and have not had any odor issues also. Seems to work well.

I was using about that much. Also, local Walmarts carry the liquid only.

The local Walmart's, SE Texas, also only carry the liquid. I mix two cap fulls in a bucket of water about 2 gallons and put it down and follow it with one cup of power laundry detergent in about 2 gallons of water also after I dump the tanks and they are clean and just before I pull away.

Yes, but it seems like I'm crossing a line having UPS bring me laundry supplies.
