|
Hot water getting cold after less than 2 min in the shower
So i bought a 2015 flagstaff SL 26FKWS a couple weeks ago
Took it out this past weekend and the water heater doesn't keep up in the shower, after about 2 min the hot water is gone,
Anyone have any suggestions before i take it into the dealer?

Double check that you have the WH bypass values set correctly, if you happen to leave the middle one open, your mixing cold water with hot.

If it is a 6gal water heater it doesn't last long. I being a retired navy guy fit in easy to the wet-soap-rinse showering. Never have a hot shower. Usually a "kool" shower will yield enough time to soap your hair but ya gotta be quick. Sorry, it is what it is. Some have installed a fancy mod to allow those Hollywood showers.

The bypass valves on the back of the heater are probably in the 'winterizing' position. When you open up whatever you have to do to get to the backside of the heater, there are three valves... one each on the hot and cold inlet pipe and one connecting the two. When the handle is perpendicular to the pipe, the valve is closed - when its in-line with the pipe, its open. For winterizing, the hot and cold inlet are closed and the bypass between them open. For normal use, reverse all three.

Also make sure you have the thermostat set to its highest setting.

Thermostats are non-adjustable. They have to be replaced. I replaced both the propane and the 110v with 142Degree ones.

sounds like everything is working fine... (if its a 6gal tank which is whats listed)
your shower head is likely a typical ~2.5gpm (should be right on the shower head), assuming you get 100% recovery from the tank which is not likely as some is wasted heating the line and the 'tail end' will be cool due to the fresh water filling the tank, getting 2min of HOT water is all youve got.
With a tank like that you had better be taking fast showers, or take navy showers (turn water off while washing hair or soaping up)

Check your outdoor shower to be sure those valves are not open and the shower head valve closed. That will cause your water to go cold sooner than it should.

The 6 gallon Suburban HW tank in our Flagstaff allows both propane and electric to be used at the same time.

Yea
I had both gas and electric on at the same time,
I had a 6 gal in my Georgie Boy maverick class c, an the heater in that could keep up with shower demands and it was gas only

As others have pointed out, you may have an incorrectly (or faulty) bypass valve.......or you also have the outside shower taps on, but shut off at the handheld wand. This also allows cold water to mix in with the hot water.
Might want to check to see.

I have to wonder if the bypass valve isn't stuck partially open allowing cold to mix with hot.
I had a 6 gallon in my flagstaff and we managed with a family of 7

Our 6 gal Surburban heater gives sufficient hot water to shower for about 7 minutes full on. with the "Navy" shower, you can take your time. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is the gpm of the inlet pressure (use a pressure regulator at ~55psi?), or if you use the fresh tank and water pump do you get better results. I wonder if the inlet pressure is too high, you'll just push water through and not allow it time to get hot as you deplete the supply.
Hope you figure it out.

Question everyone< what is the purpose of having both electric and gas on? Quicker recovery?

Yes, plus 142d thermostats help also by requiring less hot water and more cold.
