Hot water heater

I'm hoping someone can give me some advice. How do I clean this hot water heater plug?

Hot water heater

You don’t. It’s doing what it’s supposed to be doing.

That is an anode rod. It will slowly eat away to avoid the hot water tank from being eaten away.

If it's calcium buildup, vinegar will clean it off. Soak it for a few minutes and then use a stiff bristled brush to brush it off.

We keep five videos provided by Suburban Manufacturing that detail their water heaters maintenance and operation of at this link

https://www.forestriverforums.com/fo...es-135977.html

This video there explains the anode rod (that you have pictured)

As per the chart provided by Suburban, you want to replace the anode rod when it is 75% or more consumed. Yours pictured is closer to 25% consumed so you have a lot of life left in it.
