We, uh, dump it when we leave. We rarely go for more than 2 nights, and never have an issue with gray water smells. I didn't know it should be treated.

Lots of liquid in both tanks when driving. I never treat the gray tank because it gets dish soap and shower soap a plenty. Never dump either tank until at least 3/4 full. Use Downey and Borax in black tank and never had an odor problem but once again soupy liquids are the key. Did this since 1989.

We use the geo method on both black and gray. Typical do the gray at the end of the season, black on an as needed basis maybe 3-4 times a season.

We use that liquid orange hi-c stuff. Grey tank hasn't really been an issue, actually, neither has the blank tank since we generally do a flush on the black tank every time we dump. Only adds a few minutes to the process.

tank treatment
so many good, cheap deodorizers, why play aroud with toxic, messy chemicals? Walmart has tablet and powder forms in single packet, no mess. You can use only half packet in the gray. No worry about smell, damaging tankd sensors, or fouling cess ponds where you dump.

Never treated a gray water tank in over 20 years of camping and never had any odors from one.

We don't let foodstuff get in the grey. We wipe down our dishes, silverware and pans with used napkins then wash in a tub in the sink. The tub gets dumped outside at a distance (we're strictly boondockers). So soap, shampoo and toothpaste are the only things that get into our grey water.
However, we just purchased a composting toilet which will get installed when our rig gets back to its home base in October. I saw a video online where a woman said she pours the urine bottle down the shower drain into the grey tank. DH is concerned about smell and bacteria growth. The alternative is to pour it outside away from the rig. I'm not excited about either method but have to do something. Anyone have a composting toilet that can give input? Or anyone with just thoughts on this?

You don't want to pour urine down your grey tank. That would turn the grey tank into a black tank. I'd be concerned about smell and bacteria. Dumping it outside is probably against the law and it might attract critters. Best practice would be to dump it in a public toilet or dump station. Hopefully someone who has one will let us know what they do.

Grey water tank.
In the 50+ years we've been camping and with all 9 of the campers we've owned, we've never put anything in the grey tank and have never had any odors. We're not full timers so that may account for the lack of odors in the grey tank. We're not out long enough for water to sit in it very long. So you're question should have been directed at either full timers or weekend campers. You'll get two different answers, probably.
