HW Heater

This is the first winter with our camper. I drained the hw tank and put the anode tube back in. My question is do I need to anything else to the tank in preparation for winter?

Did you use teflon tape on the anode? If not, you should remove it and wrap 3 or 4 wraps of teflon on it and then re-install.

You will want to bypass it by turning the three valves (sometimes two valves) so that you have shut it off from the rest of the trailer. Then you can continue to winterize your water lines using antifreeze or by blowing them out.

Make sure the AC switch is off and stays off while power is connected to the camper and the water is gone or you will burn up your heater element in about 2 seconds.

Is it even possible to get all water out of WH? I assume there will be a little left at base of tank unless you have a way to eliminate all water.

I use a paper towel that I stick in the socket hole and hang it down the side of the camper. You will be amazed how much water will wick out with a paper siphon. About 10 minutes after it stops wicking it will be bone dry inside.

DO NOT forget to put the anode back in! It will keep the threads from rusting and bugs out of the water heater.
